Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

It has been quite some time since we’ve been blessed with a new Counter-Strike game. I would imagine that Valve wants to protect the legacy and integrity of the series. Right now the two respectable Counter-Strike games would be Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike Source, with most of the competitive players favoring the old 1.6.

Counter-Strike has always been merited for being one of the most balanced competitive games ever released, so releasing a sequel would come with a lot of risk and pressure.

That’s why when I first heard of the IP Counter-Strike: Global Offensive I got both excited and nervous.

Unfortunately, to my own dismay, I think I should feel neither excited nor nervous for this one. Although not officially confirmed, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been mentioned by Valve designer Jess Cliffe, and it has been all over the Steam forums and just about any other social medium out there.

Even an update on the ESEA Facebook page reads “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive…More info in the morning.”

As of right now there are no official details on Global Offensive, but from the looks of internet hearsay, Global Offensive doesn’t look to be a new Counter-Strike game at all, but more of a console game that may come with a PC port.

Everyone who is hoping for a brand new PC Counter-Strike game will have to keep all of their appendages crossed, as we anticipate an announcement later today.
