Dead Island has Gone Gold

Dead Island first started to gain popularity with its initial trailer that was nothing short of spectacular, but we all know that trailers are nice to look at...and that's where it ends.

Since then, a good amount of gameplay footage has been displayed for Dead Island and I'm really not sure if this game is going to be a huge hit or not. The games concept and setting are perfect, really.

It's just...it's a game that revolves around melee combat, and with games like that you really need to play them for yourself to make a fair assessment. It really needs to feel authentic and natural for this game to flourish. There is also a fair amount of RPG elements involved, which is great because it gives the game another layer of complexity.

When I said the game's setting is perfect I really meant it. Something about mixing the idea of being on vacation on a tropical resort with having that vacation ruined by zombies really makes sense in my head. It removes you from the most relaxing of experiences, and puts you in a frantic fight for your life. I think it's brilliant.

Plus, having the gameplay revolve around melee was also a good decision. There's something about slicing a zombie with a machete -as opposed to just using a handgun- that makes it so much more personal.

Dead Island will be available September 9th for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, and I'll be sure to try it out, because despite the gameplay, I know the content is right up my alley.
