Behind League of Legends: Dominion
Steven Granieri posted this item on Aug 10, 2011

Riot Games put a lot of work into Dominion, by far the largest update in League of Legend’s history. Dominion adds a new map to the game where champions have to fight over capture points to win.

Dominion looks like it’s going to be heavily favored by seasoned League of Legends players. I say this because the games are condensed, with each match taking about 20 min to complete. Also respawns times are a lot shorter, and Dominion encourages conflict overall.

You will constantly be engaging in team fights as you fight for control over the maps five capture points, and you will also be generating gold a lot faster, so you’ll see players with expensive items earlier on than usual.

Some of the complaints about the original map of League of Legends, Summoner’s Rift, are that once the other team starts to get a lead on you in gold the game becomes very one-sided and almost impossible to comeback. In Dominion, you will always have the opportunity to shift the momentum. Also, League of Legends is predominantly a team based game, but on Summoner’s Rift the experience can be a bit isolated at times while farming gold. The real teamwork comes into play during team fights, but these are situational instances that occur in flashes. In Dominion, you can expect to have to cooperate and coordinate with your teammates constantly, making for a much more strategic and rewarding experience overall.

Plainly put, I can’t wait to try this map out with some friends.
