Playstation Vita Delayed Till 2012

If you live in Japan, then I suppose this announcement is irrelevant, but Europeans and North Americans are going to have to wait until 2012 to get their hands on a Playstation Vita.

According to the Associated Press, Vita is still hopeful to make a 2011 holiday release in Japan, but the European/American launch will have to be pushed back to an early 2012 release.

Sony Corp. Executive Vice President Kazuo Hirai spoke on behalf of the company Thursday in regards to the 3DS price cut and if it will affect their pricing of the Playstation Vita,

"We packed so much into the device and made it very affordable," Hirai told reporters at Sony's Tokyo headquarters. "There is no need to lower the price just because somebody else that happens to be in the video game business decided that they were going to lower their price."  

Hirai did remain rather ambiguous when questioned about the specifics of released dates, but he noted that he wouldn’t characterize the late arrival of the Playstation Vita as a delay. Instead Hirai assured that Sony wants to be prepared with solid game software offerings timed with hardware launches; a bit of a stab at Nintendo maybe?

The release dates for the Playstation Vita remain in question, but you can be sure that when it does arrive it will cost $249.99 for the Wi-Fi model, and $299.99 for the 3G model.
