League of Legends: Dominion
With Dota 2 approaching, Riot Games has been hard at work, and I mean hard at work, to ensure that League of Legends can stand up to the iconic MOBA giant that is Dota.
Riot Games has expanded and flourished as a business since the launch of their free-to-play MOBA game League of Legends. I recall games crashing, the client being littered with bugs, but through it all League of Legends evolved and now is the most solid free-to-play experience that has ever been released, at least in my opinion.
Riot Games came sprinting out the gate, and from the looks of their most recent announcement, it doesn’t look like they plan on slowing down anytime soon.
I give you: League of Legends: Dominion
“We asked our millions of players around the world to expect the unexpected in 2011 – and with League of Legends: Dominion, we’re making good on that promise,” says Marc Merrill, president of Riot Games and executive producer of League of Legends. “Dominion brings something completely original to the MOBA genre, taking the proven fun of League of Legends’ team-based competition with a diverse roster of champions, and unleashing them on a new battlefield with entirely new rules.”
Dominion will boast an entirely new map dubbed “The Crystal Scar,” and will focus on a capture/defend style of gameplay. This is a completely different take on League of Legends, and in a game so intricate, the smallest details can affect the gameplay considerably.
Matches on The Crystal Scar will also be a bit faster paced and accelerated compared to those on Summoner’s Rift, with each match taking about 20 minutes to complete on average.
If you were worried that Dominion will make you start from scratch or cough up some dough have no worries. League of Legends: Dominion will also be free-to-play, and players will be able to use their existing masteries, runes, champions, and skins.
The game will be making a debut for gamers to get their hands on at Gamescom and PAX Prime later this month.
