Borderlands 2 in Development

2K Games and Gearbox Software recently announced that Borderlands 2 is currently in development. Set to come out on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, Borderlands 2 was given the ambiguous release date of Take-Two’s fiscal year 2013, which actually starts April 1st 2012.

This technically means that we could see Borderlands 2 as early as April 1st 2012, but I’m guessing for a 2012 holiday release.

Borderlands 2 looks to build on its predecessor with all new characters, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, and even a finely crafted story to tie everything together; sounds just peachy.

I was a big fan of the first Borderlands. I’m a huge loot guy, so the fact that Borderlands had thousands of weapon variations really sold it for me. Combining RPG elements with a first person shooter isn’t easy to do, but I feel Borderlands pulls it off quite well.

I think if they can expel the sequel from the monotonous repetition of the first game, and they really flesh out those RPG elements to really give Borderlands 2 some authenticity over those other post-apocalyptic shooters, we’ll have ourselves quite a game.

They are going to be showing off Borderlands for the first time at Gamescom later this month so expect some gameplay videos to follow. They are also showing it off at PAX Prime late this month as well, so the game must be coming along quite well in development.
