$1 Million Dota 2 Tournament

This year at Gamescom, Valve is hosting a Dota 2 tournament as sort of a “coming out” for the game. A lot about Dota 2 has been kept behind closed doors, but this tournament seems like a perfect way to help Dota 2 explode on the scene.

This isn’t just some casual affair either, Valve is ponying up and bringing $1 Million green ones to Gamescom to award the winner of the tournament. What makes this even better is that the competitors aren’t selected out of a hat, and they didn’t win the lottery, they are seasoned players who have gotten a chance to prepare for the tourney prior to Gamescom.

"I have had the good fortune to watch the competitors as they prepare for the tournament, and the level of play is extraordinary," said president and founder Gabe Newell in the announcement release.

The tournament will be broadcast in English, Chinese, Russian, and German, ensuring that Dota 2 will be the shot heard ‘round the world.

Gamescom will be taking place from August 17^th through August 21^st and the tournament will taking place over the duration of the convention. I’m expecting it to be really hype.
