Riot Games at E3

Riot Games, the people who brought you League of Legends, had some new content to show off at E3 this year.

For those of you less fortunate individuals who couldn’t go to E3, Riot released a video highlighting some of the content they had prepared for E3. The video details three new champions in the works for League of Legends, along with a new spectator mode that the community has been begging for.

I think all three are going to shake the game up quite a bit. First off there’s Yorick the Gravedigger, who has the ability to summon minions to apply him with buffs and fight by his side. I feel like the game needed some more in-your-face melee heroes after the huge buff that AP carries have gotten.

After Yorick they plan on releasing Leona, the Radiant Dawn. The community has been asking for a true female tank and now they’re getting it in Leona. She looks promising due to the fact that she will have a ranged AOE ultimate that will CC enemies. Being able to initiate fights from a long range is a huge advantage for a tank. I’m interested to see how they confront balancing issues with her.

Lastly, they have a champion in the works, but there is still some work to be done before his release. That champion is a scorpion named Skarner, The Crystal Vanguard. Skarner is going to benefit from focusing champions, applying a stacking debuff with each strike. He also has an ultimate similar to Rampage’s ultimate from Heroes of Newerth, where he impales and enemy champion and drags him away from his team.

All of these champions look like they could be drastically overpowered, so I’m interested to see if Riot can keep these “flavor of the month” characters under control.
