Fifa 12 On The DS, To Which I Say, Why?

Fifa is the only sports game I enjoy watching people play; I say “watching” because I lack the coordination and depth of knowledge of sports to actually play – how you guys can see an offside before the replay I will probably never know. With that said, Fifa 12 has been announced...for the DS. EA, as can be expected, is saying some pretty fantastical things about it, but to be honest, I don’t really think that the game can possibly be a whole lot better than any of the other Fifa games on DS. I was looking at gameplay clips from Fifa 09 and Fifa 10 to try and fairly judge what the draw of having it on a handheld console is, but I can’t really determine any. It’s not horrible, but it just doesn’t look as engaging as the console version. Isn’t the trash talk over the headset part of the entertainment anyway? Sure, you can get that on the DS, but I imagine it would be pretty awkward to be shouting at your opponent from the break room, for the people around you if nothing else. Not being a football fanatic myself, I don’t really understand why someone would buy this just to play on the go, or on the plane/train/automobile ride or where ever it is that you play your DS. There’s games that are better suited to the DS size and resolution, like the token Mario games or Pokémon. Because I know you didn’t buy your DS just to play Fifa, and the watered down DS versions just can’t compare to the full console experience. Anyone got input on this one?
