Call of Duty: Black Ops Leads January Game Sales
The NPD Group has released its most recent tracking results for new U.S. retail video game sales for January 2011. Results reveal that industry revenues dropped 5 percent when compared to the same month last year. They further report that retail sales of new video game hardware, software and accessories totaled $1.16 billion for the month.
With PC sales excluded from this report, the industry took in a total of $1.14 billion in revenue, down 4 percent from 2010.
According to the NPD report, the Top Ten Games for January 2011 were:
1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, Wii, NDS, PC)
2. Just Dance 2 (Wii)
3. Dead Space 2 (360, PS3, PC)
4. Little Big Planet 2 (PS3)
5. Zumba Fitness: Join the Party (Wii, 360, PS3)
6. NBA 2K11 (360, PS3, PSP, Wii, PS2, PC)
7. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (360, PS3)
8. Dance Central (360)
9. Michael Jackson The Experience (Wii, DS, PSP)
10. DC Universe Online: The Next Legend Is You (PS3, PC)

Other gaming related sales including hardware, software, and accessories, have dropped 5 percent from $1.22 billion to $1.16 billion compared to January of 2010. And overall industry sales alone fell 4 percent from $1.18 billion to $1.14 billion and software dropped 6 percent from $644.9 million to 603.1 million compared to January 2010.
The NPD report was for the period of January 2nd through January 29th, 2011.

I own two of the ten, Black Ops and Creed. E-z to see why Black Ops is #1, it's a very good game. What's interesting about this list is that three of the ten have something to do with dancing.
