Get In On the Game with Antix Game Player!

Imagine that you are watching one of your friends play an insanely addictive new game on his phone. You like it and want to download the game for yourself, but maybe it’s too pricey, your network connection is too slow, or because your friend has a different phone, the game is not available on your device. Sound familiar? Well, hold on to your joysticks, because Reading, UK-based Antix Labs has a plan to change all of that.

The Antix Game Player, a player-to-player distribution system making its big debut at next week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is poised to be a veritable game changer. Using the AGP software client, consumers will be able to share and play third-party games with their friends and family across multiple devices via Bluetooth or WiFi, either over the network or off-network in immediate proximity. For the first time, games can be distributed in a device-independent format similar to MP3s, and played on Antix-powered mobile phones, TVs, PCs, tablets and other connected devices, no matter how different they may be.

Services are only accessed to make any required payment after the completion of the trial game, allowing for the viral distribution of titles and the creation of game communities without the usual associated increase in network traffic and bandwidth overload. Most importantly, the rights and revenues of publishers remain protected, and consumers have an opportunity to get their hands on games they may not otherwise have had the opportunity to experience.

“Consumers are constrained to work in artificial ways defined by the portals,” said Francis Chang, CEO of Antix. “Today’s ‘social’ gaming is largely antisocial with the relationship being between the consumer and the portal rather than consumer-to-consumer. Antix turns this on its head to the benefit of consumers and the entire supply chain.”

The currently supported platforms and devices are limited, but look for that to change quickly after the Mobile World Congress. Microsoft Windows users can also download the AGP browser plugin via the Antix Games website and explore the titles already available in their store.
