Imagine Publishing collaborates with videogame giant in celebration of one of its most beloved gaming franchises

Issue 65 of Retro Gamer goes on sale across the UK and the world this month with a glorious red foil cover to celebrate Nintendo’s popular Metroid series.

Originally released on Nintendo’s Famicom system in 1986, Metroid has gone on to become one of the company’s most treasured franchises, with heroine Samus Aran appearing on virtually every major Nintendo console and handheld system since. With the imminent arrival of the Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii, and Nintendo and Team Ninja’s exciting announcement of Samus’s latest adventure, Metroid: Other M, there’s never been a better time to look back at the treasured series.

Retro Gamer has joined forces with Nintendo to create a cover that perfectly captures the excitement of the original games. Resplendent in its red foil finish, the modified artwork that first appeared on Super Metroid will be instantly recognisable to fans of the series. The issue itself, meanwhile, not only offers an exhaustive look back at the entire Metroid franchise, but also features a world-exclusive interview with Yoshio Sakamoto, the esteemed director of SNES hit Super Metroid.

“It’s a testament to Retro Gamer’s place within the UK gaming press that we’re able to offer such a unique insight into one of the greatest gaming franchises of all time,” commented Editor Darran Jones. “Our close ties with Nintendo have enabled us to create a stunning cover that perfectly captures the imagination of the established and well-known series.”

Retro Gamer is the UK’s only magazine fully dedicated to retro gaming and is highly respected within both the game industry and the retrogaming community.

Imagine Publishing is one of the UK’s fastest-growing consumer specialist publishers. Formed in May 2005, Imagine now publishes 20 magazines and 30 websites in the videogames, computing, entertainment and photography markets. An Imagine magazine is purchased every ten seconds.
