Press Release

A different perspective on your cities

A blog about cameras in Cities XL by Gregory Champeaux

One of the main things we wanted to do from the start with Cities XL was to enable you to experience your cities on all levels. From the regular view in previous city builders to a sky-high satellite view giving you an entire perspective of your city, down to the street level where you can see your citizens enjoying their daily city lives in the peaceful town you build for them.

To show that to you we have chosen the largest city currently created in the Beta. It is the city 'Ragnarok' located on the english-speaking planet 'Galatea'. Created by the adventurous player 'Shock' that sprawling megalopolis already has 13 million citizens, and a number of tokens that influences the economy of the whole planet it is located on.

Satellite
At the top level we have what we call the 'Satellite' view. Here you have a complete view of your city from literally 10.000 feet above the ground.

Mappy
Just bellow you have the 'mappy' view. Closer to the city it allows you to judge the overall progression of your creation, and analyze large-scale city problems like traffic or pollution.

High Game
Next are the two most used 'game' cameras. These two will be your best tools to plan and execute most construction of your cities, and large scale structures (like highways).

Hood:
Next is the 'neighborhood' camera; perfect for focusing on small constructions and having a closer look at your city.

Street
Even lower we have the street level camera. This one will allow you to see more precisely citizen life on the ground level.

1st Person
Finally you can enjoy a first person view, where you can walk your street like any regular citizen. This is the perfect spot to have a 'concrete' perspective of your city.

Postcard
Aside these 'gameplay' cameras we also have what we call the 'Postcard' camera. As its name implies, this one isn't so useful for construction purposes. However if you want to have a nice look at your creations you will see your cities like never before..
