The inevitable follow-up to critically acclaimed action-RPG BioShock is being developed by a new team, publisher Take2 has announced.

The first game was put together by 2K Boston, but development duties for the sequel have been handed over to 2K Marin.
Fans of the first game shouldn’t cast themselves into the abyss just yet though. A number of former 2K Boston members were instrumental in founding the new team, so there should be some continuity between the development cycles.
“We’re focused on continuing to bring new brands and cutting-edge gameplay to market with the creation of the…Marin studio,” enthused Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “(They) will build upon our success in creating and leveraging triple-A franchises.”
For those interested in what 2K Boston will now be up to, rumours have it they have been given responsibility for a new game using Epic’s Unreal 3 engine. Hopefully this time they can resist the temptation to add annoying respawning enemies.
The original BioShock has now sold over 1.5 million copies, garnering numerous awards along the way. The sequel has been tentatively pencilled in for release towards the end of 2009.
Due for release Q4, 2009, as Bioshock 2 furthers development, more information will be available!
