Dragonball Z: Burst Limit Video Game Review(PS3)

Story:
The story of Dragonball Z: Burst Limit tells the story of goku and his friends on their quest to protect the earth and other planets from enemies trying to gather the 7 dragonballs and misusing the dragonballs for greedy needs. The dragonballs are mythical artifacts that when the user finds all 7 he/she is granted one wish. Many people want the dragonballs for immortality, money, to become ruler of the earth or galaxy, others want to wish to return the dead back to life.
In the story mode (Z-Chronicles) you fight every fight from the Saiyan Saga all the way to the end of the Perfect cell saga. Luckily , for those who are wanting something new in a story mode such as fashion, there are "what if" chapters in the game after you beat the main story plot. To see "what if"  this or that happens in the actually anime story line.

Gameplay:
The gameplay is very unique from the previous Dragonball Z fighting games like the Budokai Series and the Tenkaichi Series. In Dragonball Z: Burst Limit there are three different main attacks; Rush Attack, Smack Attack, and Ki attack and a number of different attacks such as the "Mega Crush" and "Super Smash Attack".
Those who have played the Budokai series will be quite stumped when they enter their first battle without going though the tutorial. Another interesting gameplay element is the "Aura Action". Aura Action is kind of like the Dragon Rush on the Budokai series but not fully. "Aura Action" is when two combatants duke it in a high speed combo like action sequence in the air and rapidly pressing all the buttons. Whomever started the Aura action and wins, deals good to the other combatant, Now if the other wins the duel he blocks the attack and you continue the fight from there.

Graphics:
The graphics in Dragonball Z: Burst Limit are superb. It makes great use of the cell-shading on the models, It brings new life into the series of the Dragonball universe and the fighting genre. The battlefield's that you fight on are not as "lush" as in the previous title Dragonball Z: Budokai 3,  but it is good. The majority of the levels are quite detailed and when you land a nasty blow to the enemies it'll have your enemies leave a dust trail along with him which make the game even more dynamic in term of detail.

Special Effects:
The special effects in this game are the best part about Burst Limit. I personally love seeing the ultimate attacks in the game after you nailed the person with a "Super Kamehameha " Or a "Final Flash" attack and watching the video sequence of the devastation. Another great thing about the special effect is on some battle fields if you hit your enemies with a "Ultimate Attack", the stage takes damage. Also, when you and another player use a special attack  (Example: 2 Kamehameha's) you begin a power struggle and I must say the special effect on the power struggles are fantastic.

Sound:
As far as voice acting goes you might wanna just skip the majority of the cut scenes. By the 4th cut scenes, watch you can already tell that the developers and the voice actors didn't put there heart into it and some of the cut scenes are just replays from another chapter with the same animation but different player models. I love the actors voice from the anime, but in the video game it just doesn't quiet fit.  If they would have given the model more emotion, and the voice actor added a little bit more heart in the acting then it would be great. But if you do not like the English voice actors you can always switch it to the japanese voice actors. Now, as for sound effect in Burst Limit goes it is top-notch, gives the game a more vibrant appeal to please the fighting genre and gives more sense of the action in the fighting; because thereʼs nothing better then hearing the sound of your enemies falling down to earth or whatever planet and slamming into the ground. Priceless.

Drama Peices:
Drama pieces are temporary cut scenes that enhance your player giving him enhance strength, defense, reduce fatique, Regenerate some HP or whatever. This may seem more "cinimatic" but one problem is, you cannot skip though the cut scenes of the drama pieces. You have to watch them, personally I hate having to watch something I don't want to.  With the bad voice acting I only wished that it included the function to skip the cut scean. Lucky you can change the voice actors from English to Japanese if you don't like the English voice actors.

Multiplayer:
The multiplayer suffers greatly in the game. While I was playing in the multiplayer I battled two people from japan, one from France and one from Germany and got horrific lag. Now i'm sure if you find someone within the states or around where you are located that has a broadband connection you might have lag free matches and have the best time of your life.

Overall:
Overall the game is a very good for the first of the series. It may lack the great online aspect in multiplayer,  and literally zero emotion from the player models and the voice acters, and with complicated controls;  but after you get the idea of the majority of it the game combat system can get fairly dynamic and hectic in battle. With a little touching up on some areas and removing this and adding that to the game, the next Burst Limit  might just turn out very good so that everyone can enjoy it.
Whether Dragonball Z fans like myself or people who have never watched the anime, you'll will soon get to know the great line that brings shivers up my spine just thinking about it; ITʼS OVER 9000!!
