GDC: Babel expands to offer MMO services »

Authored by Lemon on 2008-02-22 01:22:00

Babel, the industry’s leading outsource services provider, delivering QA testing, translation, audio and print services to all major publishers and developers, is already working on a number of MMO projects from the USA, South East Asia and Europe, some running until 2009.

Babel has a worldwide resource of 350 specialist translators and editors divided into genre, a world wide network of casting agents and recording studios and a test team of over 500 functionality and localization testers based in Montreal, Brighton and India.

“You need scale, global delivery and flexibility to provide a credible service for MMOs” said Anthony McGaw. “You need large scale functionality testing, and online beta capability, the resources to translate 2-3 million word scripts, cast and record multiple actors and then carry out localization QA on the result. This is our core business.”

Integral to the company’s MMO services is the ability to have long term stable test teams that build up knowledge of the title, then act as leads as the teams expand in crunch time, and then also pass on that knowledge to the customer support team when the title goes live.

Equally, using a proven approach to large volume translation such as multiple editors and banks of translators, the MMO team creates free glossaries, and uses translation memory tools to deliver a drastic reduction in costs.

As part of offering a complete end to end solution for MMO developers, Babel is increasing the size of its Indian facility and expanding into new service lines of outsourced art and customer support.
