of street racing.
You

everything to take over your rivals' neighborhoods one block at a time.

Canyon, where territories and reputations can be lost on every perilous
curve. Represent your car class, your crew, and your turf in Need for
Speed Carbon, the next revolution in racing games.
World Racing 2 [PC]
World Racing 2 is the sequel to the poorly received World Racing (also known as Mercedes-Benz World Racing), which was released in 2003. Bland visuals, run-of-the-mill gameplay, a restrictive car license, and a poor sense of speed were just a few of the original game's many problems. The changes made in World Racing 2 demonstrate that the developers were aware of the criticism that the first game received, but many key issues have gone untouched, and none of the changes make the game more enjoyable.
MotorStorm [PS3]
Sony and developer Evolution Studios' Motorstorm is undeniably one of the more anticipated of the upcoming crop of PlayStation 3 games. It was one of the first major games shown for the system and looked to demonstrate the kind of incredible visual fidelity the PS3 was to be capable of. In this regard, Motorstorm does not disappoint. It's easily one of the best-looking games on the system (if not the best thus far), and you'll be hard pressed not to ooh and aah as the game's vehicles crash and explode into one another again and again. Trouble is, that's pretty much the bulk of what you're going to get from it. While the racing is legitimately exciting and filled with visual treats, there's only a handful of ways to experience it, and the only way that really holds up over time is online against friends.
Need for Speed: ProStreet [DS]
Need for Speed: ProStreet
Compete at the highest level of street racing with Need for Speed ProStreet. It's a true taste of raw adrenaline and racing with consequences. Every dent, every scratch and every crumpled body panel is a battle scar, proof of your commitment and competitive mettle. Need for Speed ProStreet pushes the "Autosculpt™" technology to a new level, allowing you to directly impact your car's performance for the first time as well as personalize its appearance. Add in a revolutionary online mode that will redefine the meaning of competitive social play, and Need for Speed ProStreet is the ultimate formula for an emotionally charged street racing showdown.
In ProStreet there are four different game modes: Drag (a race in a drag strip, point to point), Grip (similar to Circuit races but with four different types of Grip races available), Speed (similar to a Sprint race) and Drift.
* Drag race is simply a 1/4-mile drag race, where the fastest time, out of three runs, wins. There are also 1/2 mile drag races, and wheelie competitions.
* In Grip races, there are four different modes (normal Grip, Grip reverse, Sector Shootout and Time Attack), the player has a choice to race rough, such as ramming, smashing, or blocking the opponent in order to win the race, or race cleanly and follow the given racing lines.
* Normal Grip races feature 2 to 4 laps around a circuit track with up to 7 other racers. First driver to cross the finish line wins.
* Grip Class races take 8 racers and divide them into two even groups. The racers are placed into the groups based on their vehicles performance potential. Group A starts about 10 seconds ahead of group B, both groups race on the same course but are only competing against the 3 drivers in their group.
* In Time Attack the driver with the fastest overall single lap time wins the event
* In Sector Shootout the track is divided into several segments, with drivers attempting to complete these sectors in the shortest possible time. Extra points are awarded to drivers who 'dominate' the course by holding the fastest time for every segment of the track.
* In Speed Challenge races, players must cross the finish line first to win the race (in a similar fashion to how a Sprint race works). The courses are normally fairly straight and braking is not usually required, but the races are high risk and the slightest mistake could send you off the track, and most likely out of the race. It is the highest speed type of race.
* In Top Speed Run races, the course is divided into 3-6 sections (just like that of Sector Shootout in Grip races) and at the instance a player crosses a checkpoint their speed is clocked and added to that players score, the player the highest cumulative speed wins(similar to how a Speedtrap race in Carbon and Most Wanted works).
* In drift, players drift to emerge as the driver with the most points scored in the event. Points are scored based on speed, angle, and how long the drift is held intact.

H-Craft Championship [PC]
H-Craft Championship looks surprisingly good for an indy
racing game--after all, major publishers spend millions polishing the
graphics for games of this type, and its impressive that a small team
was able to produce something that looks so nice.
It's science fictional, in that the racing vehicles are hovercraft
that apparently tool along great superhighways in the sky. Also
apparently, in the future, road safety is not a major concern of the
authorities--perhaps the world is overpopulated and they want people to
plummet to their deaths--so that failure in steering doesn't mean, as
in other games, that you go off road and lose speed, but instead lose
the game.
The main game mode is the championship--a series of events in which
victory unlocks more tracks and vehicles. It's a single-player game--no
network play--but you can record a 'ghost' of your race and send the
file to a friend, so that he can race against your best time, on the
same track. Similarly, in 'Rival' mode, up to four players can race on
the same track, in succession, against the ghosts of previous
contestants, so there is a form of hotseat multiplayer, in any event.
If you enjoy racing games, it's well worth a look.
The developer says:
H-Craft Championship is a fun to play scifi-racer. It features 28+ racetracks,
a unique driving physics simulation, a fresh design, and a challenging
Championship mode.
The 2 Timeattack modes offer the option to exchange ghostdrivers
with your friends for competition.
On "Rivals" up to 4 players can have an exciting tournament on a single PC.

LEGO Racers [PC]
LEGO Racers
LEGO Racers is everything you'd expect it to be: a simple, colorful, and fun high-speed romp through a land built entirely of those famous snap-together building blocks.
Essentially, LEGO Racers is much more of an arcade-style racer than anything else and seems like it would be more at home on a PlayStation than on a PC. It has little regard for physics and no real car damage modeling. Instead, it's a fast-paced game of unlimited powerslides and limited but plentiful power-ups on one of several fairly well-designed tracks. With these power-ups, you'll be able to shoot at an opponent in the lead, drop an obstacle on someone trailing behind, use a temporary invulnerability shield, get a turbo boost, or receive an enhancement to one of the above four. These power-ups are crucial to your success and basically constitute all of the game's strategy.
The actual racing in LEGO Racers boils down to the simplest of arcade racing principles - momentum. Though some of the tracks are truly challenging, if you can gain a solid lead on your competitors, your victory is more or less assured; conversely, if you let an opponent gain a solid lead, the best you can hope for is second place. This principle holds true for every single track in the game, which may prove frustrating for much younger LEGO aficionados not yet skilled in the art of playing computer games. In fact, LEGO Racers doesn't even have adjustable difficulty levels, which makes it seem as though it were intended for more experienced console gamers rather than for the small children of a PC owner.
Nevertheless, LEGO Racers is still quite fun to play, not only because its racing is solid and fast-paced, but also because it sounds good and looks great. You can't really be in any part of the game, not the building editor, the options menu, nor the middle of a race, without hearing some sort of cheery, upbeat cartoon music. And should you be in the middle of a race, you'll no doubt be surrounded by the ambient growl of your car's LEGO engine, the blast of a cannon power-up, and the cheers of triumph or shouts of dismay that you and other drivers will utter as you pass one another.
LEGO Racers looks even better than it sounds. When playing in 3D-accelerated mode, virtually everything in the game looks bright, colorful, and clean - races take place with no evidence of slowdown or pop-up, though getting into the occasional accident may cause some clipping. The texturing is minimal for the most part, though that's to be expected in a game whose decor is based on single-colored building blocks. However, beneath LEGO Racers' seemingly plain visage lies a good deal of subtle detail. Seven different official LEGO sets are present in the game in the form of racing opponents, track designs, and blocks for use with the build-your-own-car utility (which is somewhat limited because little space is provided to add new blocks to your car).
You can also create and customize your own LEGO driver using sets of over 20 hats, heads, torsos, and legs, as well as variations on facial expression. And the drivers are quite possibly the best thing about LEGO Racers. The art team has done a remarkable job animating every driver in more or less exactly the way you'd expect a LEGO figure to move, if LEGO figures could somehow come alive and move of their own accord. Even in the fanciful cutscenes, the characters' movements stay true to the original plastic LEGO person: No one's hand unclenches from its perpetual C-shaped claw, and no one's leg suddenly bends at the knee. However, all the drivers wave, cheer, jump up and down, look about, and walk around in a way that lends each an appreciable and thoroughly enjoyable helping of personality.
It features several modes of play, but all are fairly standard: a practice race, a timed race, a single race, and a circuit race (which is used to unlock new tracks and cars). Unfortunately, even though the circuit race mode offers six sets of four tracks and a seventh, final race for a total of 25, 12 of the 25 are simply previous tracks run in reverse.

Hovorun [PC]
Hovorun
Hovorun will be Europe´s first Multi-Player Online Casual Racing Game. Hovorun is an action-packed strategic 3D online racing game that provides the user with an easy but dynamic gameplay, which differentiates it from other casual racing games available.
Characteristics:
ONLINE CASUAL RACING GAME
With exciting racing environments, Hovorun introduces “In-game Gold-Collecting System” which allows the user to get attack/defense items during gaming. It makes Hovorun a unique strategic and action-packed racing game, guaranteeing maximum gameplay fun for all players!
EDUTAINMENT
Hovorun has also been gearing up for being an educational game. In the “Alphabetic Letter Collecting Mode”, the user will improve his/her English word power while they still feel that the original fun (or even more fun!) of Hovorun is kept intact.
RACING MAPS
Hovorun racing maps are the planets of the imaginary space named “Kozmo”. Hovorun provides various kinds of maps representing Kozmo’s planets in which players can experience unexpected gameplay fun!
CHARACTERS
Hovorun provides the user with cute brat characters which can be further adorned by changing racing suits and adding accessories.
HOVOS
Hovorun also provides various kinds of hovercrafts called “Hovo” in the game, each of which has its own bells and whistles, thus making Hovorun racing more interesting and exciting!
GOLD COLLECTION AND GAMEPLAY
The ‘gold coins’, acquired in the course of racing, are to be used only in the current stage of gameplay. As the player gets more gold coins, the number of attack/defense items that he/she can use against other players increases. When and how to use these items creates Hovorun’s unique gameplay style with a variety of strategies.
ITEM SELLING
Hovorun is also based on the “item selling” model in which user items can be purchased by either game money or game points. Items include: hovercrafts, clothes, helmets, goggles and a variety of accessories. They all can be worn by the game character of the users’ choice. The model of “item selling” has been very successful in many Korean online games. Though this business model is still at its infant stage in North America and Europe, the world game market is currently paying a lot of attention to this extremely successful (and lucrative!) business model for online game servicing.

Race Driver: GRID is the latest addition to the TOCA Touring Car series by Codemasters, published and developed by the same company. It was announced on April 19, 2007, and will be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, as well as Windows PCs. The game is due for release in June of 2008.
Race Driver One will make use of Codemasters own Ego engine, an evolved version of the Neon engine already used in their previous release Dirt. The damage code is said to have been completely rewritten to allow for persistent damage environments. GRID is also said to feature "the most extensive range of events in the TOCA Race Driver series, combining official circuit-based championships with road races and urban street competitions."
Race Driver: GRID will take players to beautifully realised and dramatic race locations over three continents to compete in an unprecedented variety of racing events. Packed with the most powerful race cars – new and classic, circuit and drift – players will compete to conquer the most prestigious official race tracks and championships and then go beyond to compete in challenging city-based competitions, through to road events and urban street races.
In Europe, race gamers will compete on the greatest official tracks in prestige Marques including Aston Martin, Koenigsegg and Pagani. Iconic cities across the U.S. – including San Francisco, Washington DC and Detroit and each with their own atmosphere and events – play hosts to diverse street races. Here, high-performance V8 muscle cars set the pace in aggressive closely fought pack competitions.
In the Far East, Japanese racing culture sets the tone where night races, including Drift racing, take drivers through neon illuminated cities and to outlying mountain roads. There is also the opportunity to compete in races that operate on the fringes of legality in the back streets and industrial areas of Yokohama.

Burnout Paradise [PC]
Burnout 5 gives players license to wreak havoc in Paradise City, the ultimate seamless racing battleground, with a massive infrastructure of traffic-heavy roads to abuse. Gone is the need to jump in and out of menus and aimlessly search for fun like many open world games; in Burnout 5, every inch of the world is built to deliver heart-stopping Burnout-style gameplay. Every intersection is a potential crash junction and every alleyway is an opportunity to rack up moving violations.
There are more than 80 cars present and there is a reworked damage system. More parts can be torn off and the state of the car determines if the player can keep driving or has to wait for a reset. Objects in the environment can now also be deformed.
The game supports mugshots with support for a camera. When a player is taken down, both players have their photo taken, exchanged and saved on the hard drive. There are also camera-less persons or an avatar can be used.
Set to release January 25, 2008, Burnout Paradise offers a true open world environment built for intense speed, excitement, and exploration within Paradise City. Feel the aggression in the streets off and online*, as friends can connect instantly in one another’s game to heat up the competition.
Of course, rules are made to be broken, and when gamers enter Paradise City, they’re assigned a Drivers License that quickly begins to amass a record of player’s most aggressive, reckless and destructive exploits behind the wheel. But it’s not the law that’s eyeing player’s progress … when gamers push things too hard they’ll be squaring off against the city’s most infamous burners, and these legends aren’t interested in who crosses the finish line first.
The five main event types are:
Race: the first one to reach the finish wins.
Road Rage: perform a number of takedowns before time runs out.
Marked Man: race for a location and survive the attacks from another car that tries to take you down.
Stunt Run: use stunt moves to reach a target score.
Burning Route: a unique route for each car in the game.
MX vs ATV Untamed [DS]
MX vs ATV Untamed is bringing Rainbow Studio’s legendary Rhythm Racing physics engine to the Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 system, Wii and Nintendo DS for the first time as players battle to own the off-road. Rainbow’s critically acclaimed physics have been supercharged with all-new improvements for next-gen action, featuring throttle based power-slides, near upside down whips and new scrubs at full speed, giving players more control than ever before while keeping the smooth, authentic feel not found in any other racing game. Players will compete in new event types, race with all-new vehicles and experience the ultimate X-Cross career mode, where they must master all eight vehicles, including the new ORV Sport.
Untamed has some of the classic features along with some new ones as well. There are 250 cc and 550 cc bikes and four ATV models, but also monster trucks, offroad dune buggys and trophy trucks.
Players can pull off insane stunts and compete in six different racing series (Supercross, Nationals, Opencross, Supermoto, Freestyle and Rally) or in the X-Cross, a tournament of all the series wrapped into one, plus sponsorships can be acquired: good performances have the player receive better bikes. It also features Crash Camera, a super slow-mo breakdown of accidents and crashes, similar to MotorStorm.
Some mini-games have been included as well, including ATV hockey, Monster Truck Smash and Tag to name a few. The online mode has the player compete against other competitors. The gameplay is very similar to the console systems, certain buttons for gas, brakes while the Wii remote can be used as well.
The DS and PSP versions are almost similar. While the DS has few vehicles and only has a championship mode unlike the many series in the major console versions, it contains ten exclusive tracks and three stadiums. The PSP version is almost similar, but has different series from the consoles: Race, One on One, Time Attack, Stunt Challenge, Stunt Race, Hang-Time, Combo Challenge, Flag Challenge. It also has the X-Cross tournament, but it is named the MX vs. ATV World Tour instead. Games can be played against friends using Wi-Fi.
The largest, most detailed racing worlds to date will showcase all-new modes and event types, pitting racers against logs, rocks, mud pits and more in EnduroCross™ and letting players tear through treacherous trails with all the vehicles competing against each other in Opencross. Stadium-based Supercross racing will be returning, with all the top Motocross and ATV professional riders, and the entire game will be available online. The franchise’s largest cross-platform launch to date will also feature versions for Playstation 2 system and PSP system.
