Red Ring of Death on my Xbox 360?

Not . . . actually, it was pretty funny after the fact.

I was on the PC playing CSS and my son was playing on the 360 and we received a power hit, it was windy out. We lost power in the family room so both the PC and 360 lost power; however, the lights came back on immediately . . . not good. The PC restarted and my son powered up the 360 and guess what? Three red rings. He cycled the power button a couple of times and still had the red rings. He asked what the red rings meant and I answered what do you think it means.

Wow, he flipped out!!!! PANIC!!! We had the 360 for less than three months. I don't remember ever seeing him freaking out like that before. I told him he better start saving his money for another 360 . . . LOL . . . not the right answer. I noticed the power supply had a red indication and unplugged/plugged the power connector. Problem solved. I told him to turn off his sweat pumps.

I just thought the whole incident was funny especially seeing his reaction with a "broken" 360.

xD Oh dear. When did you get your xBox? If you have the new chipset, then there is very little reason to be concerned as it is far less likely to fail.

I can get a bit cranky if the internet stops works, so I can totally understand the panic lol.

The new Xbox's are a huge improvement, their fail rate is about 4%, down from a jaw dropping 23% before 2006 (even higher than that in some surveys).

Still has a huge fail rate though.. from waht i hear the other day its 23 point something percent while ps3 is like 10 and wii 2.7 or something. Xbox 360 ftl...

It clearly has the highest fail rate.. rrod alone is half of there failures, thats pretty bad. From what i heard 1 out of every 4 xbox's get a rrod

Although this is more postive news.

And the ps3's isnt to satisfying either... but i never ever had a problem with any of my playstation consoles (ps1,ps2, and now ps3, and psp...) and i dont know anyone that had a problem with their playstation console either. I know a fair few people with the rrod though... i was planning to buy one might get it then if the numbers are dropping that much.

Not entirely true. Statistically speaking, that would mean one out of every four of my friends would have gotten one, yet only two out of a fairly large number have. Those that did got a better system back, with a newer chipset and have yet to have any troubles.

I have a couple of co-workers at who had their 360s RRoD . . . total of three Xboxs . . . one had the scratched game disk too. I haven't had any issues with either the PS3 or the Wii (keeping fingers crossed) or the PS2.

I did see charts similar to the ones that Dr!fter posted stating one in four Xbox's had issues. I think Microsoft is able to get away with that type of reliability issue because the Xbox 360 is an excellent product and the consumers are willing to take that risk.
