Xbox 360 on the way!

Wife finally gave the okay and ordered Xbox 360 Pro for $259.71. Console is for my son's birthday. He used $200 of his own money. He wants Left for Dead as his first game for the 360.

I think it is a Jasper board so I will keep my fingers crossed. Now I have to find a 5-port switch so I can hard wire both the PS3 and the 360.

Wife also said yes to a new mountain bike for him too. Woot!

LOL Paul,

You're getting to have about as many consoles connected as me

It would be "interesting" if you could compare the same game on both your consoles and review each in direct competition

Future reviewer? :tt2:

Well, I got a notification that the Xbox will be delayed an additional 7 days so it will miss my son's birthday. Oh well.

I thought about connecting the Xbox 360 wirelessly but didn't want to pay $80-$100 for the Xbox 360 wireless adapter so I used DD-WRT firmware on a spare Motorola wireless router that I had and turned it into a client. I'm surprised how well that worked out. I did a trial run installation and hardwired the PS3 to the Motorola client router which in turn is hardwired to the Linksys router/modem/internet. Worked great until I noticed the firewalls on my PC and laptop went absolutely crazy. Couldn't figure out what the problem (multicast port requests) was until I spoke to some network guys at work . . . the Motorola router ethernet cable should have been in the LAN port vice WAN port . . . I knew that . . . duh . . . wasted like 2-3 hours figuring out what was going on. The final configuration will have both the Xbox 360 and PS3 hardwired to the Motorola client router and then to the Linksys router.

The only PS3 game that I play is the Nazi Zombie on COD WaW. I haven't played any CSS lately because of the carpal tunnel thing going on with my hands . . . hands are really sore and shaky . . . staying off the mouse as much as I can. My oldest son plays on the PS3 and also my Steam games with exception of CSS.

I think some games such as Fallout 3 is better on the Xbox 360 as it has the down loadable content while the PS3 does not have that option. It would be interesting to compare that same games on the two different consoles. I am a bit nervous about whether the Xbox will have the desired Jasper or some variation of the Falcon board. I also purchased a Nyko cooler for the Xbox to keep the temp down.

Am I using my son's birthday as an excuse to get an Xbox???? My wife looks at me and shakes her head. I think I already know the answer. LOL.

Hmmm, the title should be Xbox not on the way. Ordered the Xbox on 9 May with original delivery of 18 May . . . delayed to 25 May . . . delayed to 02 June . . . delayed to 08 June. Dell was willing to ship it 2nd business day after I told them that's poor business practice . . . they're still advertising 1-2 shipping. Unbelievable?!?!?

Well, the good thing I can think of is my cousins in China maybe building this so it better be a Jasper board! My son has been busy with baseball anyway!

Haha, oh man, yet another story of the horrible service that Dell exhibits.

Something tells me you'll be getting a rebate in the mail or something like that. A little gift for your understanding, if you wish.

Well, we finally got the Xbox and it is unfortunately a . . . Falcon board made in June 08. It was a repackaged box with the 60GB sticker on the box. I think I should have just went with the Arcade Jasper version and just purchased the hard drive separately. Anyway, I have to say that the Xbox Live feature is very slick . . . much better than the PS3. My son has been playing L4D so he will be off the PC more and his regular baseball season finally ended. I have a feeling when L4D2 becomes available later in the year he will want that as well.

I purchased the Nyko Intercooler TS to keep the Xbox cool and it is loud. Loud enough to be distracting when I'm streaming a movie from Netflix.

The interface is quite a bit different than the PS3. The headset that came with the Xbox Live messenger kit is a piece of junk. Only a matter of time before it breaks. Hopefully, the intercooler will mitigate the RRoD thing.
