I'm considering purchasing the 360 on a future date; however, I have some reservations regarding the RRoD and damaged game discs. I'm curious has anyone had the RRoD, how long have you had your system prior to the RRoD, and how it was resolved (if at all)?

I think each console has it strengths and they stand alone in their capabilities and features.

Before i received my Elite at xmas i did alot of research, the newer 360's are alot more reliable than the rushed versions that were first released.

The PSU has been upgraded, the CPU has been upgraded, an extra heat sink on the GPU has also been added.

Ive also came across suggestions to keep the dredded RROD away, these suggestions are:

Buy an xbox extractor fan (but watch which one you buy, read customer reviews)
Keep the xbox ventilated (eg if its in a cabinet with closing doors open the doors to let the air circulate)
Keep the power brick ventilated
Plug the power brick directly into your mains, not some extender.

These suggestions are mainly for older versions, but im sure they will help for the new versions of the Xbox 360.

Also if you do get the RROD you can get a replacement 360 from bill, even if the warranty has ended.

I hope these few tips can help you with your decision, im loving my 360 atm and because of that im not playing CSS as much (im sorry SP lol), but GTA IV is sooooooooo good lol.

Good luck,

L4rk.

the newer ones do not RrOD (The ones with HDMi output)

The game discs are only damaged if your xbox takes a knock or is moved whilst it has a game inside... people just over dramatize everything.

These tips can work

Buy an xbox extractor fan (but watch which one you buy, read customer reviews)
Keep the xbox ventilated (eg if its in a cabinet with closing doors open the doors to let the air circulate)
Keep the power brick ventilated
Plug the power brick directly into your mains, not some extender.

However, the power brick is NOT anything to do with the RroD, There is also no need to NOT use an extender.

Fans are just over the top... there is no particular need, Repair is free anyway... just send it to microsoft takes 1-2 weeks.

Hey man i Wouldt worry about it the red ring of death is covered by the companies warrenty for life or as long as microsoft is about (Life) I had the RroD last september i think it was. It was fine just phone up xbox live they sort it out and fix it all up for you in 2 weeks i ve even heard they give you a new console but they just fixed my software. You also ( on most occasions) Revese a gold membership for xbox live for 1 month. Which i think is very kind of microsoft =D

Scratching of discs: Check my posts if your discs do get scratched and to avoid scratching just be delicate with the xbox while it is active and the hard drive is stil runny it may scratch if you move it about in use.
Have nice day

I know not to move the 360 when the disc is spinning as that would have a potential to damage the disc. I asked around at work and a fellow employee's 360 got the dreaded RRoD after about 8 months of ownership. He said it was a second generation 360. I've read a lot of posts regarding owners getting the RRoD and the hassle they had to go through. The other issue is having to pay monthly fee to play online . . . that's a bummer.

Solution?.... Buy a PC =D All the games for the xbox are basically all on pc and if you install the right software you can connect just an xbox controller to the Pc via USB/ USB wireless. =D

The 360 is worth it because if want a cheap blue ray player buy the ps3. The 360 is the best because if it gets the RROD free to repair and they give you 1 month of free xbox live and u dont have to pay every month its 30$ to buy 1 year of xbox live that covers u for a year the online is much better than ps3 to and my 360 broke i sent it back 1-2 weeks and it was back
