Hey gang,


Not to long ago, I was introduced to the world of CSS by my youngest (17 years old) son, who had asked if it was ok to download this “New game” as he put it. I suggested that I would like to view it first and what do you know, I was hooked myself shortly thereafter.

What surprised me though, was just how serious some of the players took the game. As I struggled (and received many head-shots) while trying to learn the basics of moving, shooting etc… I found myself being ridiculed and called “Noob” for my stupid tactics, shooting ability etc…

My solution to that problem was to change my screen name to “N00b” and I figured if I can’t beat them, join them, so to speak. Shortly thereafter, the ridicules and frustration from the “Serious players” subsided and I began to enjoy the game. Arguably, my game still has a lot to be desired, but that’s the fun for me, the challenge of improvement.

Tonight I observed a N00b receive the same treatment that I previously described and I couldn’t help but feel his pain lol….. My response was to defend our newest member and give him some basic tips etc…. I reminded the “super star veteran” that we were all N00b’s at one point.

I must tell you, I had a lot of fun working with the N00b and will continue to encourage everyone to accept all N00bs to the servers and forums!! So in closing, I ask you all to remember, it’s just a game, have fun, play honorably, and hug a N00b lol………….

Seriously though I have to agree, way to many players are ONLY interested in "my scores better than your score" and stuff.

Perhaps if they would take a new player "under their wing" and helped them rather than ridiculing them a lot more people would enjoy playing games.

LOL sounds good but yeah it has happend but when i see some people going around shooting team mates in the head and mic spamming acting like total tards you tell them to shut up leave fall off a cliff they tell you to stop takeing the game soo serious! Its either play like a "noob" or play your best thats it nothing else anything other then that your just being a jerk and trying to piss people off

honestly, sometimes i take the game seriously, sometimes i dont. generally however, im just out there to have fun. unless i know you (ie, youre my friend) i wont call yall noobs haha only becuase i still get called noob plenty of times. (not saying that ill start calling newcomeres noobs)

i like the "Hug a Newb" day idea lol

I've been playing this game for like...a year and a half almost and I still get called a noob so get used to it lol cause its here to stay.

I think you missed my point

The main point is to remind others that it's just a game, and to encourage everyone to have more patience when N00b's are in the learning process. To me, there’s a BIG difference between being frustrated with a Noob just learning the game and making mistakes, as opposed to the Noob's that mic spam, cheat, and generally disrupt what’s supposed to be a good experience on the servers.......

Play the game for what it is . . . a game. I think most players log on the server to have fun. Yes, you have the occassional meatheads who are out to ruin the game. When I do observe someone "ruining" the game I give the warning "play the game or leave" and if they don't comply . . . they're gone.

If you do find someone who is new to the game. . . definitely try to mentor them. It's the right thing to do. . . it helps your ego too.

Hi TJ I heard you talk about this site yesterday in an assault server. I agree, Everybody WAS a noob at some point and for the veterans the noobs certainly help boost your scores. I used to play a lot and stopped for years until a week ago so Im an old new noob I guess. My question is this, how common is hacking really? When you spec another player arent you seeing what they see? I cant understand why anyone would hack, whats the point?
Last what should I be looking for or what would you say indicates a hacker is present?
