Default Probably a dumb question that I already have the answer to, but help me anyway please.

Ok...I have a computer at home, but no internet. I go to the library to get on the net. I have a USB stick which I save things to put on my home computer.

Kay...here is the question...

Can I save the files (of games) to my USB stick, then go home and extract the files and play the games? I think no, only because I have never actually tried it.

If you can help me, please let me know!!! Thank You!

Real quick, you should add post titles so you don't display the entire sentence of your message as the post name.

Certainly you should be able to do this. I move my saved games around all the time, from computer to computer, folder to folder. The trick is to make sure that your save game file is placed in the folder to be read by the game. For instance,a save file sitting on your desktop will not be recognized by your game, and will not be loaded.

As long as you use the Flash Drive as a virtual drive, it can be used as a hard drive.

Meaning youll be able to play saved games, or whole cdrom games saved to a flash drive (aka ur mem stick)

if your on windows XP, it will adjust it for you. On windows 98/2000 right click it, go to properties, itll be right on bottom (i believe, been awhile)

hi crystalnzer,

I'm not entirely sure what you mean in your question. Are you talking about saved game files for a game installed on both computers, the installer for the game so that you can install it on your home computer, installing the game directly onto the USB stick, or copying a game that is installed on one computer onto the USB stick to put it on the other computer?

If you are talking about the saved game files for a game you have installed on both computers, than you can definately carry those back and forth on your USB stick. All you need to do is figure out where the game keeps the save files (often they have an extension like .sav) and copy those onto your USB stick.

If you are talking about downloading the installer for a game on one computer, then using the USB stick to move it to the other computer, that shouldn't be a problem either. If the installer is the actual game and not a launcher that points your computer to a server to download the game files then you can definately just copy it onto the memory stick and take it home to install on your computer.

If you want to install a game directly onto the USB stick so you can run it on any computer, this is where it can get tricky. Some programs (including games) will install on and run from a USB drive without any problems, while others may need certain registry keys that are created during the install in order to run. Even if the game can be installed directly on the USB stick without any problems, it may not run correctly due to the speed of the USB connection and/or the memory stick itself. Nothing wrong with giving it a shot though, since the worst that could happen is the game might not work in which case you could just delete the files from the USB stick.

If you are talking about trying to copy a game that is installed on one computer over to another computer it gets even more complicated. If it is something like NESTron that runs directly from the .exe file you download rather than really "installing", that will work without a problem. If you're talking about something like CounterStrike, then chances are you won't be able to make it work. You'd have to copy all of the game files and folders, including registry keys and files that might be hidden somewhere other than the main folder the game installed to, and make sure to put them all onto the other computer in the same places they had been on the original computer, including drive letters and directory structures, copy all the registry entries to the proper places (and there can be hundreds of them), and possibly even modify some of the registry entires to make the game recognize your computer properly.

Hope this helps, and good luck with the game
