[H] Enthusiast - AMD Radeon HD 4800 Series
Anyone else happen to get this badboy? I've been an Nvidia guy for a long time and when my roommate read reviews on this card and saw how much it was, we figured it was well worth it, one for his new system and one upgrading mine. Running Crysis on XP64 with all high settings and 2x AA on 1920x1200, smooth as a buttocks from a newborn. My roommate is running Vista64 with a little more ram and slightly faster cpu, putting the game on all Very High settings, no AA, 1600x1050 (guessing, near there), running just as good. Personally I would recommend this card to any gamer, its a great price for a great card. Its cheaper than a GTX260 and runs as good / better. Also watch out for the HD4870X2 coming out pretty soon, dualgpu version of the same card. At least one division of AMD is starting to turn heads, and for a good reason. |

Yep I thought of getting 2 in crossfire but I have decided to wait and get 2 4870x2 instead. Rumour has it that there are going to be two version of the x2. One will have 1 Gb of GDDR3 RAM with 2 4850 chips and the other will have 2Gb of GDDR5 RAM with 2 4870 chips. Both of these card have been reported to be around 15% faster than there crossfire (Duel card) equivalents. I cant wait to see actual legitimate benchmark figures for these card as they look like they are going to slaughter nVidia's cards.
As you have said the 4870 is a fantastic card. Its very fast, is cheap (compared to the nVidia equivalent) and putting on AA doest have much effect on the cards performance. If you are wanting to buy a new card right at this moment i would also be recommending this card ![]()
