black widow?

I do not have a chance yet but when I do get 1, I will take a pic but Last night, I was in my shed and I saw some kind of black spider that had a big black butt, was probably the size of a new eraser on the back of a pencil. I dont know if it is also a their mating season but I also saw this other little brown spider with it. I the female one....i think in some water bottle and I googled black widow spider and I saw a pic that looks just like it. Here is a pic. ( ididnt take this one. but it looks just like the one I have. The strange thing is that I live in New Jersey and A lot of people told me that Black Widows dont live here. Ill upload the actual photo of it before the end of this week but as of now does any1 have anything to say, because I have seen more than 1 of these in my shed. The spider I have is dead at the moment and it is over my friends house. He thinks hes like an expert on everything so i let him take a look at it.

flip it over. if its a female black widow it will have a red hourglass shaped marking on its underside.

males are small and brown like what you described - the females eat them when they're done mating to maintain their energy levels during egg production.

and dont be too afraid of them. they're definitely poisonous but it would take a dozen or so bites to kill someone over the age of 12 - it's not like they're a brown recluse spider.

Soma is far braver than I am. The only way I would touch a black widow is with the bottom of my shoe and then flip it with a pencil...

Contrary to common belief, the female does not consume the male in most situations, except when held together in cages from which the male cannot escape. Examination of the genitalia is the proper way to identify species in this group. The species in Texas can be separated to some degree by the shape of the red markings on the abdomen and the location.

we see these quite often down here in texas.. they usally just hang out on barns sheds, and under our boat when we dont use it much. just read up on them they arent as scary as they are made out to be
