Default global warming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally think that this planet will not be around in around 25 years if we dont help keep the environment safe and clean. Did you see how much hotter it is getting and how fast the glaciers are melting? Also, I live in New Jersey and in the late 90's we would have a lot of snowdays before christmas and now, since 2002 there has not been a snow day b4 christmas. The snow usually comes around late January here. So what do you guys think about global warming?

yes, global warming is no doubt gonna be the reason the earth will no longer be able to inhabit life any more. unless al gore somehow finds a way to end it along with 100+ environmentalist . and even if Al gore does do something about it, the earth it self will take 100+ years to recover from the Green house Gas's.

Well, that could be by you. I live in IL.
And it has been colder here then it has been in like 25 years.
Although i do believe in Global Warming, I do not think it will make
a difference for a long while. We can still prevent this from happening.
And in 7-10 years, gasoline will not be of use anymore, due to the LitheumIon (Spelled wrong i know) Batteries, hydrogen Fuel Cells, and the one with corn i forgot the name. Thats a major step. But what we need to do next, is to get rid of Nucular Power, thats also a major.

China, India and Pakistan are refusing to sign up to the Kyoto agreement and are chucking out more greenhouse gasses than most of the rest of the world put together.

China is commissioning one "coal fired" power station a week

It doesn't really matter how much we personally recycle if the "big three" continue as they are

Look on the bright side. The weather is warmer............

Global warming is happening, but it's not all mans fault.

Think about it, there have been Ice Ages every like 10k years or so. What causes them? A disruption in the oceanic currents, caused by warming. We are still on the warmup period between ice ages. Sure we are accelerating the warming a little, but that just means it's gunna get cold that much quicker. A good example would be the movie The Day after Tomorrow, and as unrealistic as it may seem that movie was based on fact. And no, I don't get my theories from movies...I had this one long before that movie came out. Discovery channel plus bordom-inspired research online

There is almost no chance at all that mankind's addiction to burning crap will be the end of the earth... The planet has repaired itself from much worse scenarios before (the meteor that took out the Dinosaurs comes to mind).

Give it 250 years, and there will be a Glacier going 1/3 the way up the Sears Tower. That's my only worry with global warming, the more we burn the sooner that will happen.

People talking about global warming authoritatively who actually have no idea of the science behind it is one of the things which annoys me the most - especially people whose only experience of the data is "An Inconvenient Truth" - there is actually no way to tell from the data whether an increase in CO2 caused the increase in temperature, or whether an increase in temperature caused some increase in CO2. The best we can do is make an educated guess, we should NOT present global warming as fact.

There is no doubt that we are pumping CO2 into the atmosphere, and yes, it probably will have some effect on the warmth of the earth, but the amount in the atmosphere now is nothing compared to 250Ma (Ma = millions of years ago). Admittedly, humans weren't around then, but there's no way this (comparatively pathetic) increase in CO2 is going to destroy the planet.

Ironically, the effect of global warming will be the slowdown and eventual shutdown of the themohaline circulation - meaning Europe actually drastically cools.

I really only read the first part of your post so i dont really know if this was said or not... But your right, Global really is not all our fault...
Look at Valcanos, they give off some much ash that that is prolly one of the main reasons, Not that were helping at all.
But we can still do something about it.

I had environmental science class and we had a project of making the planet more nature friendly. I came up with this idea and it actually works you guys might wanna try it. Here's my project.

I basically decided that, all those plastic bottles for water are useless because most of that plastic is not bio degradable and sometimes unrecyclable. in some areas at least. SO what i did was this:

I got a cucumber, cut a little flap from the top to make it the "cap" of the "water bottle". After that, i got a knife and i basically cut the inside of the cucumber. I cleaned it out and stuff, and i actually used the cucumber to store water. I brought my friends some "100 % natural water ".

That was my earth-friendly project for the class haha.

So what happened to all of the people that backed the coming of the ice age back in the 70s? This was the big scare back then. Some say that the reduction of aerosols due to the clean air act is causing the acceleration of global temperatures. The have fallen in Europe and the US but in China it is growing. Could this be reversed by China?

Alright, first of all Global warming is only being caused for 10% by mankind. The other 90% is because of disturbences in the sun.(rougly, there are more explosions on the sun then ever before in recorded history, wich couses extra heat to get to earth and so global warming)As some already said this is just another natural phenomonon(spelled wrong lol) and do you really think that if we make our 10% into 8% or something it would help? (Because the country's that did sign the kyoto agreement, do reduce there greenhouse gasses and china and such just increase the balance is almost the same as before )

BTW: Whoever said we had to get rid of Nuclear power, we are talking about global warming for that nuclear power is one of the cleanest ways of making power... coal and other focil fuel powered powerstations are the real "bad guys". They are currently researching nuclear FUSION, wich is THE step forward to replace fossil fuels. They are now pretty far in the project and think that it can be used world wide around 2020-2025, and we still have fossil fuels until 2040 or something especcially now all the companys are going to dig deeper and in more outregions.

But to come back to the point of global warming, we can only change for a tiny little bit, because it's mostly the sun';s distubances and not our greenhouse gasses..

Gz

well i doubt humans are cause of all this so called greenhouse gases and the co2 can be combated by planting tons of trees and plants!!
trees and plants convert CO² into O²

We have only been able to detect/observe these occurances for the last xx years, when the planet is 4,5xx,xxx,xxx years old. So yes, it may be the most in recorded history, but it could also be the least in earth history.

Another idea I had a couple years ago is that the whole planet is on a slight wobble as it orbits the sun. This wobble might being us 1,000 miles closer to the sun, 1,000 farther or whatever, over the course of XX,XXX years. We would not have been able to detect such movement as we have only been able to measure such distances using lasers for xx years, so it would only be a couple hundered feet closer/farther which would be undetectabe by our measurment technologies.

But who knows...the gravity of the moon and it's orbit may be pulling us slightly farther away for a couple thousand years, till the Suns gravity pulls us closer when the moon loses it's grip? The moon definatly has gravitational effects on the earth, as seen in the Tides...so this seems possible. Unlikely, but possible...

But even if global warming isn't being entirely caused by mankind, I see no reason not to change our ways anyway. More fuel effecient cars, stricter emmission laws, more recycling, more renewable energy such as wind or solar, LED light bulbs , and so on. Even if it wont change climate at all, it will still freshen the air up.
