Tf2 Help!!!

hey guys i just got the Orange Box yesterday and i've been trying to play TF2 but my ping just goes through the roof and a few times I lose connection to Steam and they take me out of the server, but most of the time i'll just walk out of my base and it'll freeze-lag and then i'm back in my base cause someone just pwned me and I don't even know who did it. I was wondering if anyone can help me fix this. At times in the game my ping will be at 70 and run smooth as silk but it shoots to 300 whenever I walk out of my base. Someone please help me

I am pretty sure you need a new gfx card or RAM.

yea thats what I was think.My bro just got nVidia 8500 so he's gonna give me his old one which made TF2 run very smoothly....I think he ran the game on all high settings.

well TF2 runs on the same engine as Valves grand title "HL2'' or CS:S, so you can run HL2/CS:S then there should be no problem running TF2

You would think so, but Valve udated the Source engine for TF2, HL2E2 and Portal, they now recommened higher specs.

By the way, the 8600GT is available for $114.00 USD if anyone is interested in a new card, these cards are really nice, and i recommend it if you dont have money for an 8800GTX

yea its weird thought cause i can play Portal on almost everything on high and it still runs smoothly and I can play HLEP2 fine on medium and it's just TF2 and BF2142.

i know your problem geewhiz, its your internet. I had the same exact problem and come to find out, it was just my internet. My ping would be in the low and I would be running and pwning that BAM! I lag and then I die and then I lag some more till i exit out of the game. Yea I have verizon fiber optics and its been giving me trouble ever since I got it.

seems like its probably your internet's fault. If your using a fast internet, then replace the faulty cord/dont' use use wireless-people can hack into it and jack your internet. My friends does that and he DLed CSS at 1 mps instead of his usual 100 kps.
If not, then its your graphic card's issue. Add the parameter -dxlevel 80 under "properties" of your TF2 shortcut. It screws up the fire graphics as well as the uber, but at least you won't lag

Seige tank you are most likely right, a bad graphis card would NOT make your ping lagg. That is just the detail of the video

are the spawnpoint tf2 servers working? because when i try to join them it doesn't allow me to.

I've reported that problem to the tech guys, sure it will be fixed soon. Best to post in a new thread rather than on the end of someone elses
