To Silence, or Not to Silence

Well, I have been debating with myself or whether or not the M4 was best with or without the silencer on it.

In my experience, without the silencer, the M4 is stronger but has a lot of recoil. With the silencer, the M4 is much weaker, but has very little recoil.

I keep switching back and forth, trying to pick the best thing to use

What is your opinion. Please vote and feel free to debate which is best.

i think this depends, if i am behind someone, the silencer is useful, as they cant really hear where i am, and by the time they spin they are dead, but for full frontal assault, hell the damned silencer is worthless, fast takedown is your friend, baed on this i would say choice (C) both.

I, personally, prefer the silenced M4. It may not do quite as much damage, but it's very useful for surprise attacks and staying hidden. I also believe that it may be just a little more accurate, since it does not fire as rapidly as the unsilenced M4.

Lately I've been getting more headshots with the unsilenced M4 than with the silencer on. I used to never use the gun without the silencer, but now for the most part I leave it off. Long range it is more accurate and it is more powerful so it works close range. If you want accuracy and stealth up-close, use the silencer. Otherwise, leave it off.

Without silencer I find it is definately more powerful but not as accurate as there appears to be more recoil.
The silencer has the obvious advantage (its silent) lol but i find it to be more accurate with less recoil...

i also play withoutthe silencer and only put it on when i dont want my shots to be heard.

Most of the time I leave the silencer on knowing accuracy and hitting power are degraded. However, this also depends on the map and if there are wide open spacesfor long range shots and if time is available, I will take the silencer off.

The most deadly use of the silencer is when you are outnumbered towards the end of the game. Couching and moving around quietly will enhance long range shots and typically opposing players health are down so even 1 shot will kill oppponents. There's been times where I'm using the silencer shooting medium/long range at opposing player he does not know where the source of the incoming fire is from and he's jumping around trying to figure it out. Need discipline to keep 1-2 shots and not spray.

I like the M4 on the cs_office map but nothing beats the first round hit of the AK with exception of the AWP.

I've always thought that the M4 was more accurate with the silencer on, due to the fact that it's adding length to the barrel of the gun, thus increasing accuracy a little bit, but at the expense of damage.

I usually have the silencer on, but depending on how I'm doing at the time, I will either use the sliencer or take it off to compensate for how bad/really bad I'm playing.

Oh, and who cares about firepower anyway. Just aim for the head w/ the silencer on, they'll die anyway

Depending on where I am on the map (Assault for example) If I'm at the front door poking my head round to shoot vent/box campers, I'll silence it to stop anyone around the warehouse seeing the flash/hearing the noise, giving me that extra few seconds to run away after makign a sneaky kill.

However, when I'm running past front door, or going to back doors, I'll take the silencer off, as you can't beat a bit of M4 noise/damage. Especially with the skins I use, it sounds like a howitzer.

W/ silencer, no doubt. Might be weaker, but with less recoil, I find it much easier to land headshots.

With the silencer.. the best way to be. As said by many it doesn't fire as rapidly.. more control.. more headshots... more suprise and quickness. Love shooting people with the M4... I should by an M4 assult rifle IRL though. Just to have on for a collection, you know?

well i use silenced as its good for accuracy at distance, its nice and quiet, so people cant hear u coming up behind, get one at a time from behind a group of many people.

i sometimes use unsilenced but not to often. i like to be silent

I used to use it silenced all the time, but then started using it unsilenced as I preferred it for medium and long range shooting. Now I tend to leave the silencer off at the start of a round and maybe put it on when the player numbers are lower and you can get some sneaky kills. I love getting into the tunnels from middle on Dust2 as a ct and mowing down a load of Ts with the silencer on.

I prefer with a silencer, because I prefer being able to hear what my teammates are saying in vent and ingame. The M4 is a loud ass gun, and I usually have my volume cranked up.

I don't mind if it's weaker, I always hit the head anyway. Still does 112 damage, more than enough to get the job done.

I don't use silencer with tactical advantage in mind usually, I don't mind if the enemy knows I'm there, gives thema chance at least. [&:][8D]

silenced m4 use to be really accurate long range back in 1.6 but in source, I tryed to "snipe" long range with the silencer on, damn usually gets me killed. I leave it off pretty much all the time.
