24/7 Assault with FF ON

Hi there,

I've been looking through the 24/7 Assault servers out there and from what I can see, the majority of the ones with friendly fire turned ON seem to be UK based. Being in Canada, I'd prefer playing on a North American server -- especially a SP one. Given that there are already 4 24/7 Assault servers running without FF, [http://www.spawnpoint.com/forums/sit...ver_names.html], why not make one of them a FF server? Perhaps 108.4?

I'm just throwing ideas around. Personally, I find FF to be a fun challenge that can potentially improve your accuracy (you need to think before you shoot) if you play it properly.

Nevertheless, I'll continue playing on the SP 24/7 Assault servers. Any thoughts?

I too would like to see a NA based SP assault server with FF turned on. I agree with the reasons both robo and jerry have mentioned but I have my own unorthodox reason for FF. I see it as a way to control hackers, glitchers and spammers. I would gladly kill a team member who is hacking, glitching or spamming even if it means that I get slayed. The other player would likely be fed up and leave soon after. I have done this many times before on other FF servers and it seems pretty effective, as a temporary solution until TJ and Tooth get admin

Friendly fire ON causes more troubles than you would believe.

Trust me we're constantly having to babysit the UK Assault server and we've had to instigate some major "reflect damage" on it to stop the continuous TA and TK that goes on.

Jmoore you get guys who would quite happily TA you every round or spawn attack and i've seen scores as low as -15 in some instances.

I personally like FF ON as it's more realistic but, unfortunately, you need a damn sight more admins to be patrolling the server if you do.

What's wrong with you playing on the UK server to see what i mean. I play on ALL the US servers without any problems of ping.

Haha. hey as soon as we have more on the 108.4 we could take turns babysitting. I have 4-10 PM West coast time. Raven I would except I'm in Southern California and I don't ping too well there. But, I have attempted to play it was pretty funny though.

Yeah, FF on in 108.4 or 174.5 is just asking for an exponential increase in problems.

People already glitch and upper vent camp constantly, even when an admin had just slapped him 60 times so they finally fly off of the glitch spot on CT side, and where does he go the next round? Straight to glitch.

Not to mention, other than those guys, we get the occational aimbotter or speed hacker, the wall hackers, and then of course the mic spammers or the ones that just don't know why people are calling them racists or what a potty mouth is.

On top of that, if we turn FF on, there'd be constant TKers or TAers that will completely ruin those servers, and I think 174.5 will go first.



As for jmoore's method of TKing the hackers and stuff from Spawn, that's not what we do here. We see a hacker and we demo them, and then send it into the Anti-Cheat Team so they can review the demo, and then put the hackers onto the Global Ban List (GBL), as people put on the GBL are gone from ALL Spawnpoint servers, not just the one you ran him out of.

Running hackers off of servers is like aiding a fugitive escape, as they are free to come back to the 1 server anytime he/she wants, or any other Spawnpoint servers for that matter.

Anyway, I am done ranting for now.

As raven said the uk server is more realistic but we are still having to go in and babysit even with the reflect damage turned up.Some players never learn and others just go in with the intention of creating havoc for ten minutes and then leave.
Believe me guys you are better off with FF off .

well put understeer, though I'd also be all for having one of the US assault servers having FF on, it could always be undone if it turns out to be as bad as you suggest. Personally I tried playing on the UK server, and it was a lot of fun, but I was lagging really bad, around 150 average, and with my slow computer that has a huge impact.

this topic has peaked my interest and since insurgency was only getting full for an hour or two i decided to clone 108.4 to this server with FF on.

This is why I love SpawnPoint. I simply made a suggestion, and immediately action was taken. So thank you for taking everyone's opinion into account -- and trying things out. Even if the server is a bust -- I'll still continue to support SP and come to the other Assault servers.

Hello jmoore!!

First, let me say it’s nice to see you contributing your thoughts for all to ponder. I always enjoy your presence in 108.4 and will look forward to reading more threads from you in the future.

Although your idea of FF being used as a solution to assist against abusers/hackers seems admirable, this “vigilantly” style approach would no doubt have more negative than positive impact. Yes, it would provide an immediate (short-term) solution as to the abuser, however the abuser would ultimately be free to continue his/her undesirable behavior due to the fact there would be no documentation (demos). Furthermore, it could be argued that shooting a team mate will only create more disruption within the server which is exactly what we don’t want. (Note: Sir-understeer and Raven's comments)

Properly recording and submitting a demo is the best option any of us can do to insure that the entire Spawnpoint community enjoys their gaming experience with limited disruptions from abuser/hackers.

In closing, I actually find more satisfaction with the knowledge that an abuser/hacker gets banned a few days after his/her incident, just about the time he/she may have thought they “got away with” hacking.

The Vancouver2 server is really great to play with when there's people in it.
Played with around 5 BAMFs server started getting traffic then we all called it a night, but the ff sure did make it fun lol.

I like the idea of having one or two servers with FF on but the [Da] server i wouldn't like to have FF on. Any other server just one would be good practice in my opinion. But i would not like if all Assault turned into FF on.

that actually sounds like a good idea, it would improve your aiming and accuracy

but some 24/7 assault servers would be nice without it too
