On June 23, 2007, VIP Cooper, initiated the thread assault_server_recognition in which he addressed the possibility of slightly changing the Assault server’s names to assist in distinguishing between each one. Later, both Cpnichol and Raven expounded on the idea.

I too, think it would be a fantastic idea to slightly modify each of those server’s names to assist in distinguishing between all. Looking beyond the subtle differences in weapon configuations, individual server restrictions, etc, arguably this would provide a solution for regular forum members and staff to distinguish which specific server may have issues etc… Just to assist myself, I recently made a spreadsheet that identifies all Spawnpoint servers by location, name, and IP address in an attempt to better recognize each.

Far too often we read a, “Cry for help” from a forum member who is having issues with a hacker etc… only to identify the server as, “Assault 24/7.” Unfortunately, this clearly creates a delay that is longer then necessary when/if there was an Administrator that happened to be available. Having said that, I do recognize that it is important all us regular “Joes” continue to submit demos via the proper channels and not rely on simply starting a thread requesting immediate help.

I may expound on this later if time permits, I’m at work now and should run…..

Wow lol, yah ive been having the exact problem, of distinguishing, which 24/7 assult server im on or usually go to, this issue should be fixed up.
as stated by you, and the previous member/staff

I completely agree. I frequent the 'formerly' PWND 24/7 Assault server, but now that the PWND tag is dropped from the name, I am constantly confusing it with the other 24/7 Assault server's on my favourite's list as per which one refreshes the fastest.
cooper suggested part of the IP in the end of the name -- I think that is an excellent unique identifier. Any other suggestions?
I hope this can and will be implemented shortly.

Just call them by their shorter names: -

174.5 or 108.4 or 198.11 or DA or UK Assault.

There will be no dubiety then

and that's fairly easy to remember

yeah i am with changing the names. Back in the PWND days, i would sometimes go into the other server that looked the same becaues the pwnd tag was so far at the end of the server name that i couldn't see. anyways this is a very good idea!

That's what I do.

And it works!

For everyone else out there, you can "view server info" and get the IP of the server, and immediately know if you're looking at the 174.5 or the 108.4 servers, as they're "named" the same way. The DA server's named differently from the rest, same with the 198.11 server, which seem to be empty lately.

I haven't added the UK one to my list, so I have no idea what it looks like, but it'll probably say UK on there somewhere.
