If norton tells you the exact file it suspects of a trojan, try to add that to a "safe" or "ignore" list if you can. If anything, you might just have a trojan, it is a virus scanner after all...
"What the...why does it say I have a trojan, stupid virus scan!! *computer crashes* |

I have seen multiple threads regarding this on the steam forums. There the going gossip is that it is a known norton issue and their customer service department assures its users they are working on it. That being said...
IMHO Norton AntiVirus is a virus in itself. You are installing a program guaranteed to suck up a large chunk of system resources which will protect you from 83% of known viruses which may suck up some system resources. I had it and paid good money for it. After a series of failed laptops(another story) and continuous reinstalls, my copy was flagged for having been installed on too many machines. After many aggravating phone calls explaining I had only installed it one one laptop at any given time and that they were my personal laptop each time, I am told to send it in to the company, wait 6-8 weeks and they may be able to re-enable it. ![]() Do yourself a favor, and uninstall norton now. Consider any money paid a sunk cost...lost to the lesson that just because they pay for the most shelf space at your retail box store doesn't mean they are the best product. I use NOD32 and love it. Low system resource use, blocks most issues, never bothers me, updates on its own, cost very little $$$$(trial version is free & full featured). ![]()

Well i was getting the same message.
It kept spitting me out of CSS and DoD saying it had blocked a trojan. Funny though it allowed me into Steam itself and HL2. However i noticed that when you start up HL2 it disabled Steam Friends ![]() I'm glad i'm off on holiday today so that when i'm back it shou;d be fixed. LOL Rob

Christensen thanks for the late night remote assistance! It worked. I was finally able to get into css at 12 30 am! After going through hours and hours of detailed virus system scans....I was able to play! I found that today, I have to disable norton auto-protection for 15 min. inorder to have access to css (Slayer - you told me that yesterday!!!).

its probably a bad idea, but i noticed that the troublesome files were .tmp.. so i just added .tmp to the auto-protect exclude list.. problem solved. once norton fixes the problem or something, i plan on removing the .tmp from the auto exclude.. if i remember..
