Default Friendly Fire

Canada totals 67 K.I.A's in Afghanistan 6 of those were friendly fire. stuff like this happens but when all i hear are the advancements in technology why isn't their a system to prevent this sort of thing and one of them be questionable because doesnt a bomber require comfirmation before a strike begins and if not why in a friendly zone.

no blame pointed to any of the forces in the M.E. i just think these things should be brought into the light, more so since since my dad is going back i don't want any of this crap happening while hes there or any other soldier.

I doubt that the ff incidents were bombing related. More likely, close in gun battle - two friendly units against unfriendly. Grenades.. gunfire.. things happen.

Some of those deaths that were friendly fire were American Special Forces. Such as Delta Force. These are the groups who dress up as the enemy to get into thier heads and take them out covertly also collect intel. It is impossible to identify a difference between them so friendly fire is hard to prevent. Also While in the heat of battle people seem to think that the stress, the elements, sleep derprevation, and all that dont affect your shooting. All this really does, plus the affect of the enemy shooting back... It is hard to keep track of who you truely are shooting at. You people should not be talking about it. Friendly fire cant be prevented easily, you want proof go grab a gun stay awake for 3 days then get into a gun fight see how you taget aqcusition is then.

Ya i agree with Minion Those Jet fighters get to go to a ship n sleep everynight, Its different for the Ground troops who go into the grinder, I could see them accidently shooting someone else who came out of no where and was looking like an enemy, but to see CANADIAN forces in a SHOOTING RANGE and drop a bomb on them?? No thats just being Trigger happy

Our fighters haven't dropped bombs on our own team, and laser guidance does not tell you eho an ally is or who the enemy is. Not one computer in the world will tell you which soldier is which. The don't shoot down thier own jets or even purposely blow up thier own men. They people in the sky can only go by the data that they are given by land troops and gps which doesn't provide a lot of help. They are going hundreds of miles per hour and have time to make one bombing run in seconds, there is so many parts that play into that, that you cannot say bull about how friendly fire can be prevent from guns or bombs. Learn what you are talking about before you post stupid things. I know from person lessons, and talking to people from all services how so many things play into stuff like that. YOu go out in the battle field and fly that jet or be the shooter. Then when you are told you shot your team mate, that is the worst news to hear. Not one person wants to hear that so friendly fire is not something people do on purpose. There is no discussion about it, if we made friendly ID Tags then the bad guys would find a way to see them too and we would never be able to pull of the element of surprise.

u should watch discovery they do have tracking systems gps and such and its a bomber that makes the mistake of friendly fire because believe it or not they have the target coordinates before takeoff so how someone messes that up

flight status revoke and jailed

Friendly fire is a part of war. The fact that so FEW have died from FF is an amazing accomplishment. Estimates of FF deaths in Vietnam were in the thousands.

People talk through their arses about the war. We have lost fewer soldiers to enemy fire and friendly fire than any previous war, and there are been fewer civilian deaths than any previous war. Additionally, we've had fewer casualties than any previous war. This is a testament to the superiority of our military.

The problems in this war aren't US tactics, it is that we have foreign fighters coming in a stirring the pot. They attack Iraqis, Americans, and anyone else to insure instability. The violence now is primarily foreign and sectarian.

Sadly, once we leave, it will get even worse as the power vaccum starts an all out civil war between Sunis, Shias and Kurds. The civil war was inevitable regardless. As soon as Saddam died, the civil war would have started on a large scale.
