Doctors and gun owners

This is something one of my friends posted elsewhere that I thought was interesting given how rabid and ignorant the left is about guns.
FACTS TO PONDER :
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are120,000.
(Calculation) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171 or just over 1 in 7. (Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services.)

Now think about this:
Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million..)
(B) The number of accidental gun death per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(Calculation) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188. <--VERY small (Statistics courtesy of FBI)
So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on lawyers, sex and vehicle deaths for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.

This one goes back a few years...

I wouldn't go so far as to inject a personal point of view into the equation on the front end -- yes, the left is rabid about the issue, but they're not ignorant. As with any number of other hot button issues each party picks a side and plays the game.

The stats are hilarious at first glance, but you can replace "guns" with items like lawn mowers, chain saws, water or snow skis, etc, and come up with equally curious statistics.

As a registered hand gun owner I have a thought on the comparison. The key word in the debate is "accidental". Unlike my Doctor, I understand my handgun well and rest comfortably knowing that when called on it will perform flawlessly. That when needed there are no pre-existing conditions connected with its operation. That its use will be certain, nothing accidental about it. My Doctor(s) do not inspire the same confidence.

As for the left and the right, baah!

I prefaced it with "ignorant left" on purpose. This doesn't include the "lefties" that aren't ignorant but see taking away the second amendment as the path of least resistance to gain political "feel goodness". The "ignorant left" I refer to are the ones that blindly believe and follow what the rabid left say about guns and the sensationalized media coverage of them. There are FAR greater cases where automobiles are used in conjunction with alcohol....what do we do there? Ban alcohol or ban automobiles? No, we punish the specific person for the specific behavior and send them to classes. THAT is the kind of example of why I say ignorant left. They sit there and chant with the ACLU about protecting our rights or adding special classes or rights for others while with the other side of their mouth trying to take rights like gun ownership away. That is the problem I have always had with people that want to take our guns away....they are hypocritical. They are not trying to take away other rights that kill 1000% or more people like cars or sex. Why? My guess would be that they LIKE their cars and having sex but fear guns or don't like guns out of ignorance. If they wanted something real to fear, go driving on a Friday and Saturday night after the bars close.

I'm with you. Thing is the moment we bring politics into the equation hypocracy rules. The left have it on this issue, the right on others. Guess I'm just fed up with the head games played by both sides.

This country is effed at the moment, and I'd like to see a bit less fuel to the flame and a bit more willingness to do what's best for the country. This starts from the ground up, that's peeps like you and me beginning to take responsibilty for our votes and holding the elected feet to the fire. Not about the left, or the right, it's about a damaged system in need of repair. And leaders who're more concerned with their re-election than they are with making those repairs.

The gun issue seems not so important at the moment.

I agree with that but it is an example of what it wrong along with abortion and other "hot topic" issues that don't help this country out at all. Do you know that part of the reason a local official lost an election in my neck of the woods is because that candidate was anti-abortion? The thing that makes that ridiculous is that the position in question had nothing to do with abortion rights nor could they make change on that issue one way or the other. Our politicians are not so much the problem as it is the Democrat and Republican parties themselves. These two ultra-powerful special interest groups are running our country into the ground. I don't have a good remedy but the last group of entities that got "too big to fail" and did has our country on the brink of bankruptcy. I wonder if people realize that the 2 party system is going to end up being the downfall of America if they aren't brought into check.
