Re: How do you feel?

I try to keep a positive attitude, but some of the policy decisions being made don't seem to be in Obama's best political interest, or in the best interest of working Americans.
Health Care -- Greatly disappointed in the lack of bi-partisanship in both Houses of Congress. Something as critical as affordable health care being tossed about like some political hot potato while people who've worked hard and paid taxes all their lives can't count on their elected leaders to work together for a common purpose.
Terror Trials -- The easy way out would've been to simply let the Military Tribunals handle it, no fuss, nice and clean. Is this a bad policy decision? I see two possible goals for this action. One, tocreate a media diversion. And/or two, to signal the world that America is back from the dark ages. Either way it's a risky political move and a hard pill to swallow for many.
The Economy -- Unemployment statistics now over 10%, and the guy we have running the Fed predicted last year that would never happen. Stimulus while helpful to some, did not address a number of critical areas. Tax payers money given to save the banks, ever larger profits reported, outrageous bonuses awarded, Wall Street humming along like nothing is up, while Main Street sings the blues. Why aren't the BANKS lending money. Better question, why aren't small businesses asking for loans. Owners are afraid --- of an uncertain economy, uncertain health care changes/expenses, and uncertain about unknown energy costs with the upcoming Cap & Trade Tax. Much more attention needs to be given to putting people back to work.
The Wars -- When the dust settles we will look back to find that little will change in these lands. X is spot on, you can't stamp out an ideology. Sad thing now is Obama is committed to Afghanistan. He stated in the election that it would be his intent to withdraw from Iraq and focus on the real source of terror in the Middle East. And also, let's not forget that the Wars are NOW actually being paid for. So far, the bill for Iraq is over One Trillion dollars. Thank you Mr. Bush. What I'd like to see is for US to build a permanent base in Afghanistan, from this base using Net Centric Warfare set up an electronic umbrella over the entire Middle East - with a special focus on the Pakistan/Afghanistan border. Air drop flyer's over the mountain villages letting the locals know that structures housing terrorists will be bombed, then let the Predator Drones fly. And yes, collateral damage deemed acceptable. No need for large numbers of troops on the ground --- kill them with our technology.
How do I feel -- Disappointed, confused, uncertain. All the systems, values, trusts, that for all the years of our lives have been a source of pride and patriotism are under siege. And, not just from the outside. Never has there been a political divide as deep as there is now, unless we consider the Civil War. The integrity of our branches of government called into question, and last but certainly not least the potential doom of capitalism. It took 50 years of tax payer suffering to break the back of the Soviet Union, but will capitalism survive the greed of its own kings?
I support Obama, the office, because now more than any other time in my life, we need strong leadership. And not just from the White House, but from the houses of Congress as well. I fear that politics as usual will be the way of things, and I wonder where our idealogical differences will lead us.
There's a storm coming.
