Three babies were searched for weapons and drugs by police, new figures reveal.

A Freedom of Information request found that a one-year-old and two babies "0 years of age" were stopped and searched by Norfolk Constabulary this year.

Police said that since 2007, 32 children aged nine and younger were searched by officers in the county.

Police and security gone mad or do you happen to agree?

At first glance it does seem ridiculous. However, it's not like the police will specifically stopping and searching the babies themselves, it will be the mothers or fathers. And unfortunately there will be parents out there who would try to hide things on their baby or in their pram to avoid getting caught.

The children under 9 is slightly different, but there can be plenty of reasons for it. It's not like kids never steal stuff and some drug dealers like to use young children as drug runners.

The distasteful thing for me is that the searches are necessary, not that they happen. If you were to ban police from searching children then you can be sure that unscrupulous people would take advantage of that and put children at risk.

I'm with Phil on this one, All be it this is shameful that the police must resort to searching babies for suchlike items but you have to remember there are some parents etc... out there that would gladly use there kids to traffic such items around so that they don't get caught.

If it has to be done then so be it, as long as it is handled appropriately by the 5-0 then there isn't really an issue here

Yeh man, I feel for the kids... but it will be dodgey parents that are responsible for getting their kids caught up in this...
