Default Dropped Money

The other night, my business teacher told the class that the US took $12 billion dollars in cash from the treasury... and air dropped it right in the middle of Baghdad.. where the money miraculously dissapeared. Okay, I'm not sure when this happened, maybe a couple of years back? And he also said that it was on the news for about a week before it was swept under the table. Now, I tried to look for articles about this, but perhaps I didn't look for it hard enough. Just wondering if anyone remembers something about this in the news? or is my teacher bsing me O.oa

I'll take that bet Streetbum.

So, Mr Bremer, where did all the money go? | Iraq | Guardian Unlimited
U.S. sent pallets of cash to Baghdad
Digital Journal - Pallets of cash sent to Baghdad

Perhaps unsurprisingly shipping billions of $ into a war zone resulted in a load of it going missing. But don't worry, it was the Iraqis money from seized Saddam assets and oil revenue, only a bit was US cash. Can't think why anyone would want this fiasco covered up.

There would be no reason to air drop the money. If it was shipped in via air, the aircraft, typically a C-17 or C-130 would land and unload. . . I would think this would happen during night time.

I heard something about sending billions in cash to Iraq. I wonder how many pallets???

One of my clan members is an FBI agent. He and a team of feds were deployed to Iraq shortly after Baghdad fell and he sent a few of us photos of these huge pallets of money they had found. The cash was stored in metal boxes. This was money collected from a number of Sadam's palaces according to the report, and it never left Iraq. He would not say how much they collected, but if we're to believe the Pentagon 9 million of it turned up missing.

I think your teacher may have the amount and location wrong. A while back I recall hearing news reports and then a Military Channel documentary where they interviewed troops in Afghanistan. They showed pallets of cash brought by chopper, and the amount was 12 million. Money to be used to pay off the local War Lords so they would assist in finding Bin Laden. Oh well.

It was amusing because the Pentagon called wanting to know what bank they had the money stored in. Well, there were no banks as we know of, so they kept the two large pallets in their tent barracks and each night one of the officers would sleep on the stack of cash. Sweet dreams.

What disturbs me most about the financial aspects of the War on terror is how it's being paid for. No Iraqi oil, no pitching in by our allies - with an average cost of 8 billion dollars a month - and before it's over an estimated TRILLION dollars in debt. And who do we owe 90% of that debt to - our good friends and helpful trading partners the Chinese.

Don't get me started.

Maybe he is referring to the war...just a thought...I emphaticly disagree with it, but that might have been what he meant.

i think 12 billion dollars of missing money is the least of the US's problems in Iraq your sending your troops to fight and die for a lost cause (No offense) Bush doesnt want to pull out because he thinks that it will be a repeat of Vietnam. The bush administration is spending billions on your professional army and is destroying what you guys make with debt I really do hope that whoever becomes your guy's next president will get you out of the hole th Bush administration has created GL
