What do you think triggers the need for someone to take the life of another ?


I'd like to see this post go somewhere.

Personally, I think it is a lack of self restraint during times of high stress/anger.
Anger, Fear, and Jealousy can be the cause of serious miscalculations in judgment and impair ones train of though. I believe that during these courses of strong emotions, people are most likely to commit murders.

Be aware, I'm not applying this to any Armed Forces/Police.

Lets hear some thoughts.

The feeling of being in a corner with no other way out than to take someone else's life. It might be out of self defense -- your family might be endangered, taken hostage, etc... You gotta do what you gotta do. If your family means more to you than the life of the guy who is trying to harm them, then your actions will speak volumes.

Others do it to survive. For example, gang violence has gotten way out of hand, and the instinct of survival kicks in.

well there are just two of countless reasons: LOYALTY/LOVE/DEVOTION, and SURVIVAL.

One more: for all the adrenaline junkies like me, we just kill for fun. Thats reason #3.

While in some cases it can qualify as a "crime of passion", what about the situations where a killer plans out every gruesome detail? When they've got the murder planned out in their head for months, maybe years, before it actually takes place? Crimes of passion are vastly different than premeditated murder, and often times felt that they can be justified because of the emotional factor.

There is no justifying homocide. There just isn't. One single human being does not have the right to take the life of another, no matter how many times he has been wronged. I think that by saying a murder committed was a "serious miscalculation" is a serious understatement. ;)

Perhaps people are more likely to commit acts of violence under the influence of strong emotions, but that is not always the case. What it really comes down to is just this: Some people are just sick. Mentally ill, and there's a deep psychology behind the way their minds operate compared to yours and mine.

I think I rambled a bit. :ban: But what I'm really trying to say is that it varies from case to case what makes a person snap. In some instances it could be a fit of jealousy that throws someone over the edge, or sometimes it is thought out well in advance.

I can think of only 1 thing that would make me destroy someone in a cold, calculating and slow manner....someone that molests or kills my kids will get to find out what dying slowly over a week feels like.

Other than that, I believe in using just enough force to deal with/diffuse a situation. This still might still involve taking another life but it would be a choice forced on me, not a choice that I make on purpose.

There is nothing that says we have to be a victim and not fight back. Protect your family. When it is all said and done, the important thing will be that your family is alive and well. The rest you can deal with.

I like a lot of the responses posted.

And I agree with Xtreme, if someone even attempted to harm the one's I love or my children, there would be grounds for killing them in my eyes. Perhaps it is not justified,
but then again, many crimes cannot be justified by mere human judgment.

I get what your saying ActionJester.
I agree that the person has to have their train of thought and their self control impared.
Although, my theory on why people can kill other human beings is insanity.
Insanity ranges from someone that can be so jealous that they kill another person, to killing a child with no motivation.
I believe that there has to be some mental switch that just gets shut off when someone gets so stressed or angered or.. is just born that way.
Many murderers, rapists, child molesters, and etc. have had extremely bad circumstances earlier in life.. adding on to the anger or stress factor that i just pointed out.
If somebody grew up perfectly normal.. then something is mentally wrong.
