Economic Stimulus?

If you paid taxes, then you probably got something in the mail from the IRS. It said that depending on what you made and how much you put into the Federal Income Tax, you would get up to $600 dollars.

I have heard a few different sides and opinions about this. Some are excited that they are getting what is seen as free money. Others are skeptical and wonder what it will do to the price of the already dwindling american dollar.

I am personally a little skeptical. A lot of my friends have already spent that money or already have plans for it. I will be honest here: I am not the biggest fan of our president, so I am cautious. Could this just be a ploy to make the american citizen spend money they think they have in an attempt to boost the american economy? If anyone is keeping an eye on the stock market, you can see that things just aren't going right. With flucuations in the hundreds of points, it is clear that the economy is imbalanced and this stimulus could be what it needs to get back on it's feet.

Therefore, I won't plan on spending this money... not yet at least. If I did my math right, I am in line to get about $300 bucks. I hope I am proven wrong and I get a check from the government. But I don't want to count my chickens just yet.

Whats your opinion on the matter? Do you have plans for the money the government is randomly handing out? Do you have a clue what I am talking about?

If you paid taxes in 2007, and you've filed your 2007 return, then yes you will be receiving the $600 shut up and be happy pay off.

Depending on the your filing status most happy checks will be in the mail sometime in May.

Note I said "depending on your filing status" -- if you filed and are not getting the stimulus then you did not pay enough in taxes to qualify.

first off, sorry for bringing this topic back to life, but i really want to answer Ghost and i dont visit this part too often.

The thing the government is trying to is revive our economy with the paybacks, the only thing is that it is not working. What they want is for the people to spend the money they get back. They feel, that this will revive the stocks and the economy, but they are cutting interest rates to keep the economy on life support until the people get their money back and spend it on stuff. If people save the moeny, like you Ghost, and not put it the economy, this plan will fail (so in essence Ghost, your killing America ). With the plan we are on right now, the economy will have a slight rise and keep the people happy when money comes back curbing some of the fear of a recession but in the long run, the dollar will still go down and our economy will still go down.

I feel we should try to balance the budget because last time that happened, our economy began to rise.

lol phil. One thing to fix is that the money you are getting back is really not all from the government but the most of it is your own money. You send in extra money when you pay for your taxes and this is just hte government sending it back.
