Default I love my Canada

I thought I would post here just to say how proud I am to live in such a beautiful and majestic country as Canada. From its towering Rocky Mountains to its oceans on three sides and our American brothers to the south . We are truly blessed of God .

We as a nation are not great , nor are we powerful or a world leader in most things. It is the caring for our fellow Canadians that makes me so proud .Our Universal and free Healthcare , the lack of a need for more than just a few prisons in our entire country .The lack of a death penalty .The fact pistols are illegal to carry and our laid back attitude just too mention a few .

The removal of capital punishment from the Canadian Criminal Code in 1976 has not led to an increase in the murder rate in Canada. In fact, Statistics Canada reports that the murder rate has generally been declining since the mid-1970s. In 2006, the national murder rate in Canada was 1.85 homicides per 100,000 population, compared to the mid-1970s when it was around 3.0.
The total number of murders in Canada in 2006 was 605, 58 fewer than in 2005. Murder rates in Canada are generally about a third of those in the United States.

I live in Oshawa Ontario Canada .It is about 35 minutes east of Toronto.

We have a very large major highway that runs through the heart of my city called the 401. Everytime a Canadian soldier is killed in combat , and there have been nearly 80 killed in Afghanistan alone the past 5 years. The repatriation ceremony begins at an army base just 2 hours east of here called Trenton. That repatriation ceremony for each one of our fallen heroes involves a trip from the army base in Trenton along a stretch of this highway to Toronto Ontario .

Each time a fallen hero makes that repatriation trip from the army base to Toronto they must pass under several overhead bridges that cross the 401 highway .There are about 6 of these bridges in my city alone.
My heart burst with pride each time these soldiers make this journey and I see thousands of my fellow Canadians lining these bridges waving Canadian flags and saluting our fallen brothers as a tribute to their sacrifice and courage.

In 2006 Our Government renamed that stretch of highway .It is now officially called "The Highway Of Heroes" and each time these heroes pass I am thankful for what they have given and I make it a point to tell whoever I can . I am proud to be Canadian......

Take off ehh...hosers...give me a beer eh

Salutations to your fallen soldiers, Tracer.

However - my only disagreement worth making is the value of the right to carry a firearm. Just be happy that your very friendly neighbor to the south has that right.. and a large military.. so that you don't need to spend money on such things and worry about foreign invasion!

Default But we have been invaded ...

The vast majority of all homicides here by firearm are committed using pistols smuggled in from the United States of America . Average citizens here arent allowed to own or carry a pistol and have no reason too .
It was the U.S. that called on Canada to help her in the fight on Terrorism .We answered that call . If Canada calls on the U.S. for help , I'm sure it would be reciprocated !

Absolutely. Canadian/American 'jostling' is mostly good natured. I love Tony even though he is a communist/canadian.

We used to go to Canada years ago to fish for Northern Pike and Walleye. I can remember the first time I crossed the St. Lawrence River and how amazed I was at the clarity of the water. We would spend a week each year at Parent Lac near Senneterre. That's a long ride from New York and along the way we would pass through these little towns. What made them special was the way people kept their homes. Lot's of color, flowers, things growing, these story book Hobbit like houses along streets that looked they were swept clean daily.

One thing I found to be curious was the further we got away from the larger towns the more homes we saw with no front porch or stairs to the front door. Turns out back then there was some tax law that if you didn't have a way to get into the front door of your house you got some kind of tax break. So folks would simply not build a way to get in the front door. I haven't been there in years and I often wonder if they still do that.

Fond of Canada, I hope it hasn't changed too much. I hear the fishing is still the best.

Default Thx Atrus

I feel the same way about my country as you do yours . But I am very proud of the fact , even tho I live in a city this big, we never lock our doors when we leave the house , in fact I don't know anyone personally who has ever been robbed or had a crime of violence against them .I have never seen a real handgun in my 55 years living here .I think that fact along with the universal excellent health care allows Canadians to live a much more relaxed life style then some.I have heard on news stories about the long waiting list for health care here .But it is just that , a story, anyone seriously ill , is immediatetly taken care of .Yes , you have to wait for elective surgery , like hip replacement and such , but it is still 100 % paid for by our government .

The fishing here is a very well managed resource .The Ontario Federation Of Anglers And Hunters , make sure all fish stocks are kept at a sustainable level through numerous management programs .I live in a major city here called Oshawa...Well major for canada anyway...150,000 people .The thing is I'm in the north of the city and just 20 minutes north of me is a beautiful lake called "Scugog" . The musky and pickerel fishing is awesome and I ice fish there all winter for pickerel .I think Americans call them Walleyes .

Here is some lake facts....

Lake Scugog is a lake in Scugog Township near the town of Port Perry, Ontario. The lake has an area of 514 km² with an average depth of 1.3 m. The lake is fed by the Nonquon and Layton Rivers and drained by the Scugog River. The depth of the lake has become more shallow over the past century as development around the lake has removed most of its forest cover, allowing it to fill with silt. The lake was formed when William Purdy dammed the Scugog River at Lindsay, Ontario in 1834 to power his grist mill. The new lake was originally very unpopular with the local residents; its formation also destroyed the wild rice stands and cranberries harvested by the native Mississaugas. Today, the lake is used for fishing and recreational boating. The lake is surrounded by swamps and marshes which provide habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife.
Lake Scogog also has an array of Fish, such as Muskellunge, sucker, bullhead, carp, rock bass, pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, yellow perch and walleye. The name "Scugog" may be an Ojibwe word meaning "marshy waters". However, according to Place Names of Ontario by Alan Rayburn, Scugog is a Mississauga word meaning 'waves leap over a canoe' in reference to the flooding of the river valley.

I have a brand New 2008 16'6" Legend X-Terminator Side Console , being prepped at the dealer right now and will take delivery sometime in the next couple of weeks .Pickerel season opens here the second weekend in May and I can hardly wait. Not to mention my camping trips to Algonquin Park this year will have a whole new meaning as I will be able to travel much deeper into the interior of the park .

Here Here tracer!!!!!

I love canada I took a servey and i got a 10/10 on happeness with my own country. Not only do canadians love the country everyone else does aswell. I think canada should have the death sentance but only to be used in strict terms such as willy picton who has been convicted of 25 murder cases and still has another 25 to go, to me a man like that deserves death, BUT only god can judge him. I am glad that there are strict restrictions on our gun policy, keeps deathrates down, something the southern brethren dont have. Our teacher asked us a question, "Who here would join the military?" 10 of 17 put there hand up, "Who here would joint the military if a war broke out?" 14 of 17 put there hand up. Now the states claims we arent patriotic at times, but those who live here would disagree with that statement because all canadians have a national pride that runs deep and that will remain for all time to come. From the Pacific to the Atlantic Canada is a beautiful country and i would never want to live anywhere else.

(maybe berlin or munich lol )
