I don't understand why in anyone's right mind, thinks that cursing, aka swearing, excessively is a part of playing Counter Strike?
I cannot tell you how many times I join the 174.5 24/7 Assault server, and as soon as I join someone screams "godamn you f***ing foot sniper!!" over the mic. So I type in plain chat for them to watch their mouth, and what do they do? Scream at me instead. "Dude STFU. Unless you're admin, then you can STFU too." Wow... "ma_say oh really? I'm 1 button away from muting you, calm down." "Make me." "ma_say ok... you asked for it" That's one scenario. The other is I'm on CT and scouting garage on Assault, and some guy gets foot sniped, and he starts cussing up a storm. So I tell him to watch his mouth, and he's like, "oh is this a no swearing server?" "Yeah, try and watch your mouth please." And few rounds later they're cussing again. Usually when they get hit by foot snipers or whatever. What I don't understand is, why go through the trouble of hitting the mic button to activate it, THEN proceed to cuss over the mic? Why not just cuss in your own vicinity without hitting the mic button? It is that simple. That, or the people that actually sit there and type it out. Since we have a word filter, you can tell their have to sit there and find a way to make it show up, like sh!t, or fu(k, or whatever. And it's like, "dude, you just wasted like 10 seconds to find a way to type it out. In that time, you coulda said that phrase like 6 times and nobody else would have had to read it or whatever." Why do people go through such lengths to cuss on the mic, or over chat? Is it really that important that people see what you have to say cause your n00b ass just fell off of the roof and died? Just laugh it off man, it's a game.

Well said. Mic spamming/swearing is a huge pet peeve of mine. My favorite is when they say, "Sorry it's a habit" when, as you pointed out, they had to engage chat in the first place. Almost as good is when there are only a few mics on a team and one person decides to speak every time he (never heard a lady spam) dies. No one responds, but they just go on and on in a conversation of one...

I think I was there for that one understeer, but yeah, for some reason people seem to find it hard to just not swear on the server... my personal favorite is when they argue as to why they should be able too! "It's a mature game, we should be able to use that kind of language" Or something to that nature.. funny thing is, just what is mature then? XD
Low blow I know but still, it's supposed to be a fun game, and that's one thing I love about SP's servers... it's a great community... until someone comes along and ruins it all by cussing up a storm. Rules are rules, if they don't like 'em there's 1000s of other servers they can play on as far as I'm concerned. |

^ Exactly.
No one forced them to play on an SP server, and when they're in one, they should follow the rules set forth by the SP staff, because guess what? SP is the provider of the server, they OWN the server, thus they get to set up rules as they see fit. Don't like it? There are 1000s of servers out there. Pick one, just not one of SP's if they cannot follow SP's simple rules.

My Mrs finds it hilariously funny when I have to tell people not to curse and swear over the microphone.
She hears me cursing regularly but I don't push the talk button and curse so only me (and her) hear it. It's the same with the swear filter. The number of people who (obviously knowing) that there IS a swear filter come up with really ingenious ways to bypass it. Then when you ask them not to they state that they didn't realise there was a swear filter in place. If that was the case why type the swear words in funny scripts etc etc? Also the excuse that it's a mature game falls on deaf ears when i'm adminning. Rob

If you met me in real life, you would realize that I curse so much that, almost every other word is a curse word from my mouth. If I were to have my tongue washed with soap for every bad/curse word I say, I'd have a bar of soap in my mouth 24/7. I don't say/type it on the servers though, cause it's not worth my time to, and it's against the rules, so what's the point? As for the deaf ear bit about the maturity rating for the game, I just tell them that "There is no cursing allowed. Those are the rules, either abide by it or leave. It's not up for discussion." That usually ends it pretty quickly, either by them complying or I would have to kick/ban people. Like on 174.5 this past weekend, couple of guys had curse words in their names, so I asked them to change them via ma_psay, so only they could read it. It started off with 1 guy having a really bad name, so I ma_psay'ed him, and he changed it to an insult towards admin, so I asked him to change it again, and he didn't so he was banned for the day. After he was banned, another guy threw up an insulting name to admin, so I ma_psay'ed to him saying for him to change his name or he can join his buddy. He didn't comply, so he got banned too. All because he had a name with profanity in it, and them trying to be a couple of tough guys, so they get banned. It probably is GBL material. I have their Steam IDs via a demo that I will send in soon.

well i decided to remove almost the whole paragraph because for the most part it was irrelevant to this....
some times i get mad and a few will pop out but for th emost part, you dont hear me swearing, just whining. there are alot of people who swear but continuously dont stop, qutie a few times they turn out to be hackers, and its qutie annoying....you know what i guess ill put what i wrote back up... I get stressed alot, for some odd reason css, isnt 1/4 as bad for me as most console games and some other stuff. i mean when i really am losing bad at other games, i freak out, i yell, make noises, and hit myself LOL. so for what i do in css, the whining i do in css, i consider you guys lucky to hear, because of what it could be lol. i think people use the mic and chat, because sure you can swear in real life, and without the mic on or typing, but then you dont get your anger across, people dont know your angry, you need and want to express yourself, because another player is being a "jerk" or the server is "sucking majorly". well you dont want to give players the satisfaction of fealing good because often they become "egotistical jerkoffs". :P some already are ~Rob

ppl dont like being footsniped, should make that a spawn rule i men you allow ct to uv but not T ok, one for them, and then another would be to not allow the glitch one for T another would be stop footsniping, one for ct, another would be stop runnin clock one for T. All in all if you can find a way to balance the equation of footsnipin (wich is an ez kill) for a non rescue of hosties pleases both teams. So until ct's dont run clock there will always be that T shooting there feet. FACT.

^ What does that have to do with mic and chat abusers?
The whole bit that I typed about the foot sniping, that was just an example of what brings out the worst in people. Shoot, when McB repeatedly kills someone, they start to cuss him out too, both on the mic and on chat. My point was that, there will always be something that will cause people to get mad at the game, and when they do, instead of just venting their anger around themselves, somehow, they feel the need for others to feel it too, so they either hit the button on the mic to scream into it, or they sit there and type it out, find out they can't type the real word into the chat and have it show up, so they sit there and find ways to type out their curse words and stuff to bypass the word filter. My 2nd point is that, for the time that they spend to press the button to activate the mic, or to find a way to type around the word filter, they could have just said what they had to say, whether it be the F-word, or the S-word, or whatever, they could have just said it and have gotten it over. Nobody else would have heard it but himself, and all would have been fine. However, they insist on screaming profanity into the mic or keep typing profanity into the chat, in the form of a misspelled word or whatever, to bypass the word filter. That, is lame.

Ugh, you can ask the rest of EC, I'm horable on the mic. It's not so much that I'm spaming it just every other word is f*ck. It is out of habbit though, in rl I talk like that all the time. I've never really had to watch my mouth.
I'm sorry guys ![]()
