Default Jobs!!

I'm getting desperate for a part time job, for the summer, i went to the bank to withdraw a tenner, and it wouldn't do it! so alarm bells are ringing.. i need a job! fast..

i've discovered the internet is useless for job hunting, i live in bradford, UK, and when searching for jobs, 'within 2 miles' Sheffield and Manchester crop up a lot, (well over 30 miles away!) and without a car, my means of transport are bus and train.

giving in CV's and asking for a job myself failed too, a lot of vacancies arrive at the end of August they tell me, far to late for me!

Application forms are a thing of the past now, most shops are telling me to apply online, and they never get back to you..

I'm 16 and with no qualifications (yet) and no exam results til August, its very hard to be taken seriously..

So, please help! if you have any experience of this kinda thing, or any ideas what so ever that might get me some cash i'd like to hear them. Thanks a lot!

Start looking way earlier.

Not a lot of help this year but haven spent 5 years at uni and of course looking for stuff for school holidays before that (and in a rural area) I can say with confidence that most places will have been filled at least a couple of months before the holidays started. Your best bet is probably to pick up a permenant weekend job, even if you only really want it for the summer tell them you want it long term.

Have u tried maplin electronics, in all the years I worked there (Edinburgh and Glasgow not bradford) they seemed to have trouble finding part timers, for some reason it doesnt occur to people, probably cause they think you need lots of techy knowledge. But if you've ever asked for technical advise in one recently youll know its more like dixons than radio shack. :-)

I'm from the states and the majority of the people that want a job at the legal age (16) start off within the food industry.
Fast food or restaurants something of the sort.
On a day without plans make it a "job day" apply at most of the stores you are interested in.
1 is bound to give you a call.
Just be persistant.

I recommend grocery stores or car dealerships (most don't require a license)

You could try calling an agency, that's what I always did when I needed a crappy job quickly. Not sure if they really cater for 16 yr olds but asking won't do any harm.

You could always try some manual labour, even if the pay sucks it gets you outside and keeps you fit. I used to deliver milk when I was 16, nothing like running around with crates of milk for 4 hours a day to keep you fit.

My eldest is having the same trouble.

She's desperate for a summer and / or evening and weekend job.

It's mad. People are looking for folks with experience...but....you can't get experience until you get a job.

It's not really all that fair. You have people "willing" and "wanting" to work that can't get a job and you get people that don't want to work in employment.

Ah well.....

Cheers guys! Yeah theres a maplins in Bradford, just fairly hard to get to, i guess i never really thought of an electronics store, due to my lack of knowledge, if people ask why something didnt work i'd reply with 'tried turning it on and off again?'

I'l keep on looking, perhaps going to asda, or another supermarket.

Try Aldi's if you have one close enough.

They pay more than any of the other stores do

not gona say where Im from, but im fairly close, and Im 26 atm but I been there in your shoes its really hard gettin your first job...

Iv worked in a retail as my first jobs...

Done paper rounds age of 13, done various jobs at younger ages to get a few quid in pocket without parents knowin

btw

what type of job are you lookin for?

Try morrisons, both at girlington and forgottan the name of the place where the other 1 near manchester road is, but try them 2 and the one in town.... need to go in store and pickup a form, filll it out and GL

same goes with foster square tesco's

Then yeh got the new 24hr tesco on gt horton road, plus asda but that'l be a trip unless you live close or can get a lift etc...

After that try places like pc world, river island, next in town....

Call centre maybe? goto kelly's in town, apply for abbeys they always got temp jobs goin in admin deparment of the interchange buildin....

Cant remember the agency for Ventura call centre in leeds but the agency was in leeds, so a bus or train ride up there mate...

These are all places I think you could easily get into who will provide some trainin n the much needed experience for your future jobs...

Worse case, work in some local shop regardless of what their business is... Iv done estate agents, take aways, security, door man, stewardin etc, basically dont give up

GL

Edge When in doubt, head to Tesco!

You can get a job, albeit for just a couple of months. Also i'd try a recruiting agency. Agencies are the scum of the earth and will take money off you and sack you with little or no excuse but it can give you a good 6 months in an area and career choice you like.

Adecco is the agency im with just now, they are scum but easy enough to deal with.
