Careers advice..

its not exactly the best place to ask (especially with weaver on the prowl )

but what careers advice would you give to someone that wants to be in the police force..

im hoping to become part of the c.i.d (criminal investigations department)
and wondering what courses in uni. would suit me best for this..?
any help is good help, thought maybe as i was already on here i would ask you guys first

or even some other decent jobs that are well paid, if you want to list the job you do and what you think about it please do

As far as general careers go, learn all you can about sales. Almost everyone at some point is engaged in sales, even if it is at review time relative to your peers. If you have a strong sales background, you can sell anything and sales people who are commission-based have the ability to have a very flexible "cap" to their earning potential. This is because generally the harder you work, the more cash you can pocket.

Your best bet would be to contact your local police force recruitment department. They should be able to give you some helpful advice, they may even have an undergraduate program that could help you through uni.

I'm not sure if you can go straight into the CID, you may have to join some other branch first. Give them a ring and ask.

What you meant to say is why do I always jump under the bus
And yeah, sales related is always good because you can apply that anywhere, but they're most likely not going to say "ooh he has an undergrad in sales, we should hire him as a cop".

Others have already given really good advice on this, but I'll add my .02. There's an actual university career path for criminal investigations. If you're wanting to go to school for it, just do a search for a university that offers it. I know Auburn University does. Contacting your local police would also be a good idea as somebody else said.

Ahh, sorry man. Didn't realize that you were from the UK. But hey, I'm sure some university over there offers it, or....have you ever considered studying abroad? You could come over here to the US to learn the stuff, and also be introduced to our heathen ways.

I am very familiar with the ways of the US i have a lot of family over there, and now im considering doing forensics instead, perhaps go to the US to study it, i'm sure it would be better than our forensics
