I've 2 kids age 15 and 13 and they're quite "down" with me playing on line games. By that age they family is "self supporting" lol It's a recreational hobby mate. Some people watch tv or dvd's and such I play CSS. If you can't see that then youreally are blinkered to modern life. You see I sit in front of a PC at work for 9 hours because i HAVE to I sit in front of myPC in the house for 3 or so hours because i WANT to ![]()

![]() Wow, tho I truly respect and value your opinion Xemnas, and am in no way trying to discourage your from sharing them, I'm not sure this is the most receptive place to make such statements. Maybe somewhere like the AARP or some other retirement organization would be more supportive of such opinions. ![]() Anybody that puts their family 'second' has issues and needs to seriously analyze their priorities. Sounds like this "guy down the street" just has an extreme obsessive-compulsive nature and thus paid the price. Could have just as easily been gambling, alcohol, drugs, sex, obsessive work habits, abuse......you name it. I have been happily married for 12 year, have 3 sons, and have been gaming online strong the last 6+ years. It's just something I do INSTEAD of going out to bars or hanging out with my friends (getting in trouble) all the time. I'm home, with my wife and family when I'm gaming. Not out running the streets. Has my wife gotten frustrated with me and the kids for being on the computers too much?....of course. She also gets upset when I forget to put the toilet seat down and take out the garbage. All the things that tend to come up in a normal relationship, we just compromise as needed and work our way through things. I DO agree that it is really sad that this 'guy' lost his family because he was unable to compromise. But to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure just how much he truly 'loved' his family to allow something like too much gaming break up his family. Either way, I'm not going to let what happened to him, or anybody else for that matter, dictate the decisions I make. Also, I was just wondering what you meant by "rare but good life style" ? ![]()

I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that! I can't honestly believe someone actually thinks that I am too old to play a computer game!I am completely with Maxforce. I have been with my partner for 17 years, and in all honesty, I grew out of going to bars etc very quickly indeed. I now have 4 children, oldest 16 and the youngest born only a few days ago, and when she is old enough, she will be gaming also. My misses also thinks I game to much, she also thinks I smoke and drink too much, but hey, that's women for you, what I say is, you know where I am, you know what I am doing, and I'm not in any risk doing it. I'm not spending the families money on it either. The funny thing is, I flew RC helicopters for a few years, and that took up more time! Even when I wasn't flying I'd be buying some new bling alloy parts, reading stuff going on forums etc etc, but I sold all my RC gear to pay for my gaming rig. Have I got an addictive personality, I think so, but I know where my priorities are and family comes first, but i will always have time to game, and I'll be doing it as long as I am able, and because I'm a stubborn old git, the more people say I shouldn't or I am too old.....the more I'll do it ![]() |

Xemnas, I have to say that your "ageist" comments are amongs the most stupid things i've ever heard in all my days
![]() Let's see where do we start...... So... when I or Rufus or Maxforce are sitting at home on our computer and still being able to hold a conversation with out "better half" and keep an eye on the kids whilst taking part in some relaxing "entertainment" you reckon that we should be doing something else? Ok what do you suggest ![]() My kids think it's cool that I play games on computer. In fact they currently have my old gaming rig to play on and i've just bought the eldest a new laptop. See my family are firmly routed in the 21st Century and get involved in 21st Century stuff. They don't roam the streets at nights in gangs or hang around street corners but have an active interest in chatting online with all their friends and stuff. Rather than spend 3 hours or so watching TV at night or reading books or watching paint dry I play on the PC. My Mrs is perfectly happy with this as she knows I don't like much of the TV that we get over here in the UK. It's not like i'm in the bars drinking 3 or 4 pints and such..... I'm confused as to what you think guys our age SHOULD be doing with their life when you get to the late 30's early 40's and above stage. Perhaps you could enlighten us and we can all have a laugh ![]() It's not an addiction to want to play games on pc (either on line or not on line) its a hobby and way to relax.

I know a couple old-er gamers ranging anywhere from their 20's to mid 30's. They're awesome guys and they give you a lot more respect than you would get than with playing with other teens. No offense to anyone, but thats a lot of teens these days just have no respect for anyone.

Male 36, 2 kids a wife and a house... I don't get to play as often as I would like, but I still play
![]() My son plays CS with me and has been for the last year or so. When he plays, his first question is, "Dad, can you play CS with me?". As long as all my priorities are met then I will keep on playing ![]() |

I'm sorry you feel that way rev, but like i sayed "Thats just me" if you feel different about it, i won't stop you from doing what you enjoy, i'm not Telling you to get a Life. What do i suggest? i'm suggesting nothing. If you wish to play games at your age, i will not stop you. but thats your choice not mine. Xem

honestly, it doesn't matter how old you are. As long as you're taking care of your priorities, there's nothing wrong with gaming on the side. I mean, everyone's got responsibilities, regardless of their age. And there is such a thing as a having hobbies and pass times too. Gaming is just another one of those things to alot of us. We need to have hobbies to stay healthy and sane. As long as gaming doesn't control you, then what's the harm in it?
Like I've said it before, I'll be playing games till I die! I'll be the cool grandma that can still whip up some pwnage skillz and make the best cookies in the world lol.

I dont think Xem really considered his words before he said them... Having a hobby as you get older is definitely something that's suggested. My family builds cars, classic cars to be more precise. My grandfather spends waaaaay more money on car parts and keeping them running, plus paint and extra stuff than anyone should ever spend on any sort of a computer. It also takes waaaaay more time to MAKE SURE they're running so you can drive them and not get stranded because of an improperly mounted "hot rod" piece.
Gaming is something that helps keep the mind sharp and prevent mind loss in the later stages of life. Not to mention the sweet mini social aspect of being able to have little conversations and stuff with people. In the end, I really dont think there is any cap in the age of the gamer. Now if they just spend 2grand on a new comp that should have gone to groceries that month... That's got nothing to do with age, but maturity... However the people here are pretty awesome, and I like it that some of them are of the older/wiser age group, helps keep us kids on our toes. ![]() Cran Man
