The Bait
Hackers Caught: 11 |
so i was in the gungame server lastnight and a guy was totally hacking. so i took a demo of it and sent it in. since it was my first one ever sending in i didnt know how it was supposed to work. but i found the address to send it to and attached the demo and figured that was the last id hear about it. well when i checked my e-mail today i had a responce saying the the guy was found to be hacking and will be banned. i am throughly impressed with how quick that was.
thank you to the spawnpoint anti-cheat team. |

Not arguing the truth of your experience, but I thought the eventual punishment of online gamers is always private. Not to stray from this topic, but it's interesting how you were informed that the individual would be banned.
Is it spawnpoint's policy to email people about a hackerÃÂÃÂs fate; that is usually kept hushed. |

Banned

SpawnPoint has always sent me some kind of response to my hacker demos, even if they believe I provided insufficient evidence to warrant a global ban for my "suspect". I, personally, like this a lot, as I can know whether or not I've done some good.

Good work assassin
.I really don't see any privacy issues with telling someone who sent in a demo what the outcome was. I think it's just polite to let people know if the demo that they took the time to record and submit has resulted in someone being banned, plus it can help them identify cheats in the future to know if what they thought was a cheat actually was. It is a great help when players and admins send in demos that help keep our servers as cheat free as possible, and I feel that replying to those that submitted demos will encourage them to keep recording cheats. Thanks for the thanks Assassin .

you are more than welcome. like i said it was nice to get a reply back just to know that i sent the demo to the right people.but it was really nice to see that the demo was sufficent to ban that guy.

Somethings that we do not share with the public is the demo once it has been submitted. We also do not do a general post saying "so and so player got perm banned" either. Who told you ChristensenCT that we don't inform demo submitters? They and you are wrong. Since Spawnpoint updated its anticheat team last, we send out "courtesy responses" to demo submitters, even the ones that don't show a hack. Personally I think this is vital to keep people motivated to continue to send demos in. If theyreceiveno responses, people would start to feel like we aren't doing anything about the problem, give up and leave the server and/or quit sending demos in at all.
Thanks assassin from Spawnpoint anticheat member #2

Why would there be privacy issues anyway? Why wouldnt you want everyone you can possibly tell that "That guy has been seen hacking, make sure your server stays clean". Its not like youre violating some commandment of personal privacy, just keeping the game clean.
(BTW, yeah those emails make me feel good about myself. It can be frustrating though, when the whole server knows a guys wallhacking, but the response says he wasnt banned. Some types of hacks are very very tough to prove.) |

well i think part of the problem is that the honest people that have never tried to hack really dont know what to look for. that i think is also the main cause for accusing people of hacking. i mean there are some hacks that are obvious like speed hacks and the shaking one that gets headshots(dont know what its called) but im sure there are ones that are hard to prove espically if the hacker is good at covering his/her tracks.

No offense to anyone, but admins should know EXACTLY what hacks look like. You SHOULD be able to understand what is going through a hackers mind. Maybe provide special classes or something, but all admins should be familiar with the latest hacks, so they know what to look for.
Actually that's a good idea, about once a month get together and dicuss what people are hacking with nowadays, so you can more easily detect them. |

Afterburn,
If you just ban the hacker on the spot WITHOUT taking a demo and submitting it to the ACTF then the hacker is only banned from ONE server. If you record a demo and submit it and he is found to be hacking he is banned from EVERY Spawnpoint server. Then if the ACTF send the demo to Steambans he is then banned from all THEIR protected servers as well ![]() Now you should realise why at times i sit on the Zombiemod spec for2 or 3 rounds. Demos take time ![]() Rob
