Anti-Cheat Task Force

I know that this really belongs in the tech forum, but I think that everyone needs to know. The Nvidia 8800 series cards have issues with fog and character rendering that makes people fade to nothing the farther they are from you. Also the shadows are way to dark and there is no way at this point to adjust them. I don't know how these cardsrun on Vista and DX10, but on XP they have issues with the HL2 engine. Sure I was getting over 200fps but if you can't see people in shadows or the fade away to invisible, you can't play. Some time Valve or Nvidia might fix this issue. I would advise making sure they do before you buy one of these cards.

Are you sure it is not a cvar? There are several "performance optimizing" cvars in the Source engine that would do exactly what you described. Most of them can be found under the mat_ prefix, as well as cl_. I don't know the exact commands off hand, but I do know they are there.
Try opening Source and type "differences" in your console. Look for a mat_ or cl_ command with "viewdistance" or "fog_render_min/max", or any other commands that may looklike it. Change them to defaults and try, then try double the default and try again. I have never hard of this problem until now, and a lot of people play Source with 8800's...

It is a known issue...here are some links...
[link=http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion/index.php?t25883.html]http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion/index.php?t25883.html[/link] [link=http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1118856]http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1118856[/link] [link=http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGIH_enUS215US215&q=8800GTS+Rende r+issues]http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGIH_enUS215US215&q=8800GTS+Rende r+issues[/link] THIS ONE ABOVE IS ME! Cool, I got Spawnpoint.com on a google search! Come visit our gaming community! (The 8800GTS Render issues one) I tried looking through commands in console and nothing seems to help that or the shadow problems. I was advised to sit and wait for an update..bah! My old 7800GT OC kicked butt and they are cheap now so I will just get another one of those until these driver issues are fixed. If anyone else is running an 8 series Nvidia card, please post if you have issues or don't have issues because I would love to know what you are doing different. I have a AMD 4400+ dual core MSI K8N Neo4 motherboard w/ nforce 4 chipset and 1000mhz FSB 2Gigs of matched dual channel PC3200 ram (4x512MB sticks) Soundblaster X-Fi sound card WD 250Gig SATA hard drive w/ 160GB storage drive 2 SATA DVD Burners BFG 650W dual rail power supply DELL 20.1 ultrasharp widescreen monitor running at 1680x1050 res. Fans, fans, fans everywhere...my stuff runs cool. I have updated the motherboard bios and drivers, installed coolbits, latest Nvidia drivers, and run the AMD dual core optimizer.
