Default URGENT PHISHING

I just received an email from what I thought was my bank asking me to logon to their site as a security preventative measure. I did a double take at the email and decided to contact my branch just in case. As it turns out I was right and their internet/onlinesecurity division contacted me to let me know that I was one of the lucky ones who asked questions first. I had to send them the link without opening it and an explanation of what it was that caught my eye. They are investigating this and attempting to track it down. The link suddenly went dead about 2 days later.

If you see something from your bank asking for an online update where it sends you to a website STOP!!! All it takes is a quick phone call to verify it. Trust me at first it looked legitimite.

Good thing you checked. I used to work for a major bank here in Canada, and we'd get phone calls from people like you , who recieved suspicious emails asking them for login information or personal information. Companies NEVER email their custommers asking them for information. They will usually ask you to come in person if there is any issues to discuss. Phishing is a crime. People just try anything to get money from you. Banks are not the only one with that problem, STEAM phishing seems to have been an issue of late, where people try to steal people's steam account login info to get their accounts.

All the time and effort they put into this, they should just get off their asses and get a job, making their own money instead of being theives and stealing from people who've worked hard for theirs.

Edit: Also, don't fall for phone calls asking you to type a number , or claim prizes, or asking you any personal information. It's been done over the phone too.

Yeh ive had that sort of thing, where the phone rings and because I dont know who the number is (its witheld) I dont answer. Then I check the answering machine later and there is a message, so I check it and its a competition thing saying 'Congratulations you have won our top prize' 'Please press 1 etc to claim'. Strait away I put the phone down, but what got me was the fact that when I put the phone down instantly it wrang back! as the same number.

Sapphire,
You wouldn't believe it unless you saw it, even the guy fromthe bank's security divisionwho called me said it was one of the better ones. I first received the Email and then a couple of days later I received the call. When I got the call that sealed it.... private #. The police actually got involved only because I called in right away. Of course they turned up a big fat ZILCH. I just want people to know NOT to respond to the emails or rhe calls.... get a phone # if you can and then call either the police or the bank.

With the number of people who are use a site like Spawnpoint it's a wonder that somebody hasn't come up with a way to seek out these idiots or at least send these morons a bug that fries their system only.

If I was ever to catch up with one of them I have the ultimate form of punishment in mind. I would string them up by their arms, place a weight on top of their feet, salt the bottoms and have a goat lick it off for about 15 min. Then I would string them up by their eyelids and pluck every hair out of their bodt until they blinked.
