Game Of The Year 2008
Posted: Dec 16, 2008, 19:55:48
As the year slowly comes to an end, it has been a remarkable year for gaming, and many improvements to the gaming world that has enhanced the way we play and think about games.
Not only new graphics engines, but new physics engines, perspective views and things that make the more game more alive, that totally immerse us into a virtual trance.
But the question is, what in your opinion is the game of the year 2008? I fancy doing an article on this kinda thing, but need some ideas that will get me closer to concluding which deserves the title of, game of the year.

There are many games out there, Left 4 Dead has to be up near the top of the list. I don't really see CoD5 being top only because it's basically a WWII mod for COD4 with CTF.... heh.

I bet it might be Fable2, albeit boring as h3l* to me.
Little Big Planet has a huge chance to win imo.
Gears2 not so much.
Resistance good chance.
Fallout meh.
CoD nope.
It's either Fable or LBP.
Let's hope so. =)

I like L4D, though i doubt it will win, though there is that chance.
Gears of war has that great potential, i haven't play GOW2 though my brother tells me its will blow your frreakin' mind, mix it in a blender, and drink it.
Fable maybe not so sure, never played it.
Among any games i'd have to say that a good possible change that Metal Gear Solid 4 might be the winner, i played it i didn't quite like it, cause i'm not a stealth freak like some people but many seem to take this game as if its a gaming gem like chrono trigger and FFVII. But there opinion after all.

Personally, best game pick for 2008 is Gears of War 2, not sure why people like other games over this.
It's always hard to pick the "best" game game since there are so many different types. Sure Fable II was great, but a more RPG gamer would defintely enjoy that over a FPS game.
Notiable Games
Gears of War 2 - 10/10 My favorite a well built game that was not too short and not too long. This game was defintely a top 2008 pick with it's amazing story line and some of the best weapons and levels you will ever experience. You can play this with your friends, your sibilings (if they aren't too young ;)), even your next door neighbor. Nothing is more fun than you and your friends chainsawing soem bloody locus. Gears introduced executing, hostages, and double chainsawing which mad eht egame all the more sweeter.
Fable 2 - 9/10 I like this game a lot but one thing annoyed me about this game, sometimes it felt like this game was more of a job than a game. Then again I feel like this with most MMO's/RPGS. This game was defintely a top choice though with a great story, some fun and easy gameplay and generally an extremly addicting game.
Fallout 3 - 7/10 - I was actually quite disappointed with this game with the same makers of Obilvion, same music, and in my opnion a different type of Oblivion (except with guns and no horses), nothing changed much same runnign around doing quests. Very very short, 8 quests 4 side quests. The best part of this game was slo mo shooting, sometimes could be annoying, othertimes I loved blowing brains off.
Left 4 Dead - 8/10 Suprising fun and introduced a new ascept of zombies into Valve games. Slighty disappionted at this game since it could have been so much better, more Special Infected, more weapons, more levels, and more achievements could have been implemented. To me, this felt like Gears of War and Counter Strike had a baby with zombiemod.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - 4/10 - After playing WoW for a 2 years now and quitting and restarting 3 times, I have to say this was the worst expansion and addition to the game. Other than the overpowered Death Knight class, the game was a big blowout, level 80 can be reached in about 1 month and endgame material can be cleared in less than a month. Sure, some new abilities are fun, but defintely ruining PvP, also the Wintergrasp instance allows PvE players to gain PvP gear, completely destroyed some great things about about WoW. Naxxramas the "new" one was way too easy, even for me, literally some people who have never seen the instance were fighting Kel'Thuzad on the first run. Could have been better.
Sorry for the rant, just figured I'd give u a sense of what I think after wasting a lot of time on these games.
Hopefully next year will be even better :D,

My favourite was Fallout 3. True it is a lot like Oblivion and if you just go straight for the main quests then it's not that long. However if you take the time to explore there are a lot more than 4 side quests, doing the Wasteland Survival Guide will get you at least 8 side quests on it's own.
There's been a lot of dissapointing games this year, Spore was dull, STALKER - Clear Skies was bug ridden and crashed a lot and Far Cry 2 looked nice but was very repetitive. Plus almost all the major releases came with SecuROM.

I kinda agree with firefox on this one because Left 4 Dead simply brought a whole new aspect to the zombie franchise and the physical properties as well as gaming and visual properties i think are just fantastic. If there was a top game i think it would be left 4 dead. BUt top two it would definitely be Gears of War 2 no doubt about it.

Just ask yourself when was CSS released? and if you don't know look it up... and then look at the title of the thread.

I gotta say "Fallout 3" hands down.
I think it should clean house this year, as Phil said lot of games this year from GTA 4(or 17 what ever) to Spore to FarCry 2 ... had great potential but sucked @ many levels, only 1 game I was really anxious to play and maybe replay is Fallout 3.
Haven't had the chance to finish "Dead Space" nor did I finish "Red Alert", both seem to be very entertaining even though they offer nothing new.
Final Word, Vault 101.

We got a few great games this year, but none of which I found revolutionary and "new." For 2008, I think we should just get our hopes up for what is to come in 2009.

Just a reminder, the poll for the nominees will go up tomorrow, open until the 26th, for your chance to vote for your choice! the top 3 games with most votes will be picked, then it will be down to me, weighing up each pro, each con, each glitch, every little fragment of detail finely picked with a comb, to decide which of the three will win it.
Then the winner will be posted on the 28th December.
so last chance to get your say in!
Thanks!
