Hackers Caught: 624 |
As people use technology more and more, they manage to keep finding new ways of misusing it, subverting it and even managing to get addicted to it. Below is a list of uniquely technology based afflictions and disorders:
Egosurfing – Ever put your own name into an internet search engine, just to see if you’re on there? If you find yourself getting competitive with your namesakes over your Google ranking, then welcome to the world of Egosurfing. Photolurking – Ever wanted to look through a complete strangers photo collection? Me neither, but now thanks to Flickr and other similar sites there is now a group of people who spend time every day doing just that. Crackberry – Stop checking your BlackBerry, just for a few minutes. This is spreading to mobile phone users too. Blog Streaking – Blogging is not without its dangers. Blog Streaking occurs when the blogger reveals secrets that would have been best kept private. If you wouldn’t tell something to your best friend then it’s usually a good idea not to let the whole World know. Cyberchondria – The result of combining a hypochondriac with the medical advice available on the internet. YouTube Narcissism – Now why would anyone want to watch that? Your friends and family don’t want to see your holiday videos so why would the rest of the world? Google Stalking – Checking up on old friends to see how they are doing? Or are you looking up ex-partners in the hope that their life was ruined by dumping you? Powerpointlessness – Spending a little too much time making your slides “impressive”. Wikipediholism – Can’t stop yourself making minor changes to Wikipedia articles? Do you count the number of edits you make a month in thousands? You could be a Wikipediholic, find out at [link=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Are_You_a_Wikipediholic%3F_Test]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Are_You_a_Wikipediholic%3F_Test[/link] MySpace Impersonator – If you’ve ever wanted to be a celebrity but don’t have the talent, looks or sleep with the right people, there is now a way to have your own slice of celebrity. Just pretend to be your favourite celebrity on MySpace. If any of those apply to you tell us about it.
