Default Portal Prelude

For those of you who have and enjoyed Portal, a new, very professional mod has been released today which is a prequel to Portal, with complete story etc.

Here is a description of the game:
Quote:
Portal: Prelude, as its name states it, is an unofficial prequel to the game Portal. Its story revolves around the pre-GlaDOS epoch, even before she was plugged in. At this time, test subjects were monitored by real Aperture Science employees whose work was tedious, lengthy and repetitive. This is why they decided to build a great artificial intelligence that could both replace them in these difficult tasks, but also take responsibility for many other tasks within the complex and compete with Black Mesa's superiority. All employees of the Aperture Science complex are now eagerly awaiting GlaDOS. Maybe even a little too eagerly, as the upcoming events will tell...
You can get the game at Portal: Prelude

or, if you don't feel like waiting in line for FilePlanet, here is a link for the torrent.

Also, here is a review of the game:
Portal: Prelude - Planet Half-Life

EDIT: I forgot to mention that it is completely FREE

I was just about to ask if you were condoning the illegal downloading of a video game, then I read the last line.

Anyways, I usually don't mind user created mods. However I don't think that anything could live up to the legacy created by Valve. I may just have to get this in order to learn more about Glados, my favorite character in the game.

There have already been rumors about a second portal installment from Valve. It would be interesting to see how this one fits in with the actual game.

Quick update after playing through the first couple levels. The quality is certainly top notch with decent voice acting and the levels are much more challenging than those of the original Portal. I wouldn't recommend this until you've mastered the original as some can get rather frustrating.

Also, just in case anyone didn't realize, you do need the original Portal to play Prelude.

Can you use the non-steam version of portal?

Im a die-hard fan of the HL world. To be honest, as good as Prelude sounds, especially because its a mod, im not sure I want to "tarnish" valves version of events. I just love valves version of events and I dont want a "total fabrication" in that world Il stick to valve.

Don't know, but you can always try. Actually, I'm almost willing to bet that you just need Portal for its engine modifications to the source engine. Therefore, you should be able to play this mod if you just have the demo for portal "Portal: First Slice", which is free. I haven't tried this, but I think it would work.

Here's a link for First Slice:

You could always just ignore the commentary etc. and just play it for the sake of the challenging levels. Besides, its just a free game and the only way it will tarnish your view of valve in your mind is if you let it.

I just played it and its alot harder than the original Portal. I like it tbh but some of the levels give me motion sickness lol.

yeah it is a little more difficult than portal. although i haven't finished it yet some of the levels have taken me a good amount of time before i was able to figure them out. some require some luck and other's require some brain power. still the character's make it entertaining.
