Want a PS3? No problem!
So after all the initial hype, crazed launch, and Sony's crowing about how it has shipped over 1 million PS3s, how are sales doing less than two months later? Take a look around ebay today and you'll find a lot less PS3s (and much lower prices on the ones that you find) than you did a couple of weeks ago. So what happened to all the profiteers on ebay? Have they managed to offload the 30,000 or so PS3s that were listed the day after the launch? Nope, not even close. They are delisting them because they can't sell them for a profit anymore since stores everywhere seem to have plenty in stock, and anonymous employees at major retailors are admitting that not only are they having no trouble keeping the PS3 in stock, they are actually having people come in to return them. The ebayers are easy to spot, showing up with multiple PS3s they couldn't find buyers for and looking to get their money back.
The Nintendo Wii, on the other hand, is still selling out as fast as stores can get it in stock.
Arstechnica has the story at [link=http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070108-8574.html]http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070108-8574.html[/link] and my personal favorite line in it is:
"One retailer spoke to me on condition of anonymity, and broke down his version of the situation. "It's not that we've gotten more PS3s than Wiis, it's just that no one wants them. We've seen a few returned. We have four in the store right now," he said."
