This will greatly enhance your gaming experience. Follow the easy step-by-step instruction to make your game a lot more fluid.

* if you know how much RAM you have go to step 2.

1. You need to know how much ram you have, if you don't know how much you have, go to start -*> exec -> enter : dxdiag -> on system you should be able to see how much ram you have ( memory : ____ MB RAM ).

2. open steam

3. go to games

4. right click on counter-strike source

5. click on properties

5. click on set launch option

6. now, the best heapsize to enter will be about the half of your RAM. For example, I have 2048 MB of RAM so I it will be 1024.

After that you multiply it by 1024.

2046MB\ 2 = 1024 x 1024 = 1048576
1024MB\ 2 = 512 x 1024 = 524228
512 MB\ 2 = 256 x 1024 = 262144
...

now that you know your heapsize, you will enter your result in the box you've open on point 6 like this : -heapsize 1048576

* don't forget the '' - '' before heapsize.

7. enjoy !

So do we multiply half our RAM by itself? Or do we just multiply half our RAM by 1024?

eg. My half my RAM is 959.

1. 959 x 959 = 919681
2. 959 x 1024 = 982016

Which of those would I use?

you multiply the half of your ram by 1024. ex if you 512 mb ---> 256 x 1024

be sure you have the size in mb as well.

so you would use the 2nd one.

fyi, this is rly gud info,but shudn't be messed around with since a lot of people don't know whta they are doing and will not notice the performance change.

also,
a DirectX 9 card may run significantly faster in DirectX 8.1. it is best to test various settings to find out what is right for you. Use the following:

* -dxlevel 95 for DirectX 9c
* -dxlevel 90 for DirectX 9
* -dxlevel 81 for DirectX 8.1

It is recommended you dedicate half of your system memory. Below is the recommended usage:

* 512MB System Memory: -heapsize 262144
* 1GB System Memory: -heapsize 524288
* 2GB System Memory: -heapsize 1048576

Multiply your ram by 512 for a shortcut. Though I'm pretty sure no one would just to save a few seconds

uhhh kennh here is the proper info not multiply by 512 but by 1024

I wouldn't recommend to use it, as it may actually make your fps lower and gameplay less smoother. It used to help (sometimes a decent bit) back in the day, but the source engine has been updated to better internally handle the heapsize itself.

This is mentioned in the Valve support section, in one of their faqs.

As I stated, it's best if you gaiz dun mess wit it.

You guys seem like you just play CS for fun, these little performance things are for people that want to "upperhand" on competitive play.

not just for something to use on cs_office or whatever.
